Sheriff: Stolen firearms, drugs, $14K in cash found during stop

Two men were arrested Friday on U.S. 90 in Berwick after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies found a dozen firearms, two of which had been reported stolen, multiple drugs and over $14,000 in cash, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Raymundo K. Pizano-Montes, 32, of Moon Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:59 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of LSD with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of stolen firearms, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Joshua S. Miller, 20, of Boudreaux Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:12 a.m. Friday for failure to signal and driving with a suspended license.
Deputies working criminal patrol on U.S. 90 observed a vehicle fail to signal a lane change and conducted a traffic stop in Berwick. Deputies made contact with the occupants of the vehicle including the driver, Miller, and a passenger, Pizano-Montes.
Deputies found that Miller was driving the vehicle with a suspended license. While speaking with him, deputies received consent to search the SUV and located small sheets of LSD, commonly referred to as acid, with an estimated street value of $8,000.
Deputies also located Xanax pills, marijuana, and a dozen firearms. Narcotics detectives conducted an investigation into the drugs and weapons. They found evidence that the firearms were being transported to be sold out-of-state and that two of the guns were reported stolen. Detectives also seized over $14,500 in cash suspected of being derived from illicit drug sales.
Narcotics detectives provided case information to U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which will continue the investigation.
