Speeding violation leads to man's incarceration

A man driving 70 mph in a 30 mph speed zone was arrested Thursday after officers discovered registration and inspection sticker were expired, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Christopher J. Absher, 30, of Sydney Jo Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. Thursday for speeding 70 mph in a 30 mph zone, expired registration, and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker.
An officer was patrolling the area of La. 182 and Brashear Avenue when he observed a vehicle traveling at a rate of speed higher than the posted speed limit.
The officer was behind the vehicle and the vehicle was paced near the area of Brashear Avenue and Fourth Street at 70 mph in a 30 mph speed zone.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Absher. During the course of the investigation it was learned that the registration and motor vehicle inspection sticker on the vehicle Absher was driving were expired.
Absher was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Kandace D. Francis, 24, of Egle Street in Morgan City, at 9:25 p.m. Thursday for driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and improper turning.
An officer was patrolling the area of Sixth Street near Onstead Street and observed a vehicle make an improper turn onto Sixth Street from Onstead Street.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Francis. Francis could not produce a valid driver’s license.
A driver’s license check was conducted and it was learned that her driver’s license was suspended. During the course of the investigation, it was believed that Francis had been drinking and appeared to be intoxicated.
Francis was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department and submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test with a blood alcohol concentration result of .084 grams percent. Francis was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail and incarcerated.
—Crystal K. Mauney, 35, of Aydell Lane in French Settlement, at 11:01 p.m. Thursday on warrants through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for trial for theft of goods and failure to appear for trial for reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Mauney went to the Morgan City Police Department to turn herself in for warrants held by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Mauney was placed under arrest, booked on the warrants and incarcerated in the Morgan City Police Department Jail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Mark Smith, 51, of the 500 block of Murphy Street in Patterson, at 7:26 p.m. Thursday for unauthorized entry and simple criminal damage to property. Smith remains jailed in Patterson. No bail is set.
—Shayla Nicole Chaney, 19, of the 300 Como Street in Patterson, at 5:11 p.m. Thursday for possession of marijuana (first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chaney was released on $3,500 bond.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 41 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Destry J. Weber, 49, of the 400 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, at 10:13 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for probation violation. A deputy located Weber, at the District Attorney’s Office in Morgan City. No bail is set.
—Darryl Perry II, 26, of the 300 block of David Street in Bayou Vista, at 2:37 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of general speed law violation, no vehicle insurance, and improper use of registration.
Perry turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin on the warrant. Perry was released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 13, 2016.
—Heidi Sams, 36, of the 1500 block of U.S. 90 west in Patterson, at 6:56 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for possession of legend drug (Robaxin) without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The warrant is the result of an investigation by narcotics detectives into illegal drug activity at Sams’ residence.
During a search of the location, detectives found glass pipes consistent with illegal drug use and Robaxin pills.
Detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest and located Sams at her residence. No bail is set.
—Nakeisa Walker, 36, of the 100 block of Polaris Street in Bayou Vista, at 12:16 p.m. Tuesday for resisting an officer with force or violence, and on a warrant for the City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace by alarming the public.
A deputy investigating a separate complaint made contact with Walker and learned of the active warrant.
During her arrest, Walker forcefully pulled away from the deputy.
After being taken into custody, Walker also refused to get into the police unit. After being placed in the vehicle, the deputy transported Walker to the Morgan City jail for booking.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
