Teen charged with battery in fight

A Patterson teen was charged with simple battery Thursday after she struck a girl several times during a fight at Patterson High School, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Kemiah Watson, 17, of Cleco Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:56 p.m. Thursday on the charge of simple battery.
A deputy responded to a report of a fight at Patterson High School. The deputy found evidence that Watson approached a juvenile female and struck the victim several times. Watson was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Watson was released on $2,500 bail.
Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Joie Bailey, 19, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for disturbing the peace fighting and criminal trespassing.
The warrant for Bailey was obtained following an investigation into a report of a battery that took place off Zenor Road in Patterson in June. The deputy found evidence that Bailey entered onto property without the owner’s permission and took part in a fight involving several other people.
Bailey turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. She was released on a summons to appear in court May 10. This is the third arrest made in this case. Tessa Verret, 18, of Patterson, was arrested Feb. 2 on a warrant for disturbing the peace fighting and criminal trespass. Shauna F. Kidder, 44, of Berwick, LA was arrested Dec. 1 on a warrant for disturbing the peace fighting and criminal trespass.
—Nathan Francois, 29, of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:46 a.m. Friday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and improper lane usage.
A deputy observed a vehicle drive onto the shoulder of La. 182 in Berwick and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and body.
The deputy performed a standardized field sobriety test, on which Francois did poorly. He later registered 0.155 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. Francois was jailed with bail set at $2,750.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Dylan Bryant, 19, of Daphne Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:57 a.m. Friday on the charges of underage DWI and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Officers responded to the area of La. 182 near David Drive in regard to a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner. Police were told that the vehicle left the area traveling east on La. 182 when officers located a vehicle matching the description moments later on La. 182 near Grizzaffi Street.
Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was identified as Bryant. Officers spoke with several witnesses to the incident, who told authorities that the vehicle was being operated in a reckless manner in the parking lot of a convenience store on La. 182 near David Drive nearly striking several vehicles.
During a traffic investigation, reports indicated that Bryant was suspected to have been drinking and was believed to be intoxicated. Bryant was transported to the Morgan City jail for further chemical testing. He then submitted to the Intozilyzer 5000 test, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.145 grams-percent. Bryant was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Jevon Ryan Smith, 39, of Francis Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:54 p.m. Thursday on the charge of aggravated battery involving domestic violence. No bail is set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
