Truck theft suspect arrested

A 20-year-old St. Bernard woman was booked into St. Mary Parish jail Thursday after being accused of stealing a truck from a Bayou Vista home in February, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Sidney L. Acosta, 20, of the 1800 block of Linda Lou Drive in St. Bernard, was arrested at 1:22 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging her with three counts of simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
On Feb. 26, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle taken from a home on Arbor Circle in Bayou Vista. Deputies issued a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) advisory to other agencies for the stolen vehicle.
Detectives found evidence that Acosta entered into a home and two vehicles in the area. Acosta then drove away in one of the trucks. Also, one of the victims reported that jars of coins and an I-pad were missing from the home.
Shortly after issuing the BOLO, deputies received information that the truck was located by law enforcement in St. Bernard Parish. St. Mary detectives obtained a warrant for Acosta’s arrest and she was taken into custody in St. Bernard Parish.
On Thursday, Acosta was transported from the St. Bernard Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 45 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—David Burrell Jr., 32, of the 100 block of Township Road in Lafayette, at 1:43 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with conspiracy to distribute ecstasy.
During an investigation into illegal drug activity in the Patterson area, a narcotics detective gathered evidence that Burrell conspired to sell ecstasy pills. A correctional officer transported Burrell from the Iberia Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Bail is set at $75,000.
—Christopher Pollard, 31, of the 100 block of Jordin Lane in Bayou Vista, at 2:25 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft, and on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of simple burglary, for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family and for probation violation.
A deputy investigating a complaint of a theft found evidence that Pollard cashed two checks he stole from a victim. Pollard was a guest in the victim’s home at the time of the theft. The deputy, who also located other active warrants for Pollard, located him at an apartment in Berwick. Following the investigation, Pollard was jailed with no bail set.
—Nicole Swackhamer, 30, of the 200 block of Jones Street in Berwick, at 2:25 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile. During Christopher Pollard’s arrest, a deputy smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana inside the apartment and made contact with Swackhamer and four juveniles.
During the subsequent investigation into possible illegal drug activity at the home, the deputy located marijuana and a burnt marijuana cigarette in one of the bedrooms. Swackhamer admitted that the marijuana was hers. She was jailed with no bail set.
—Emilio Chavez Garcia, 38, of the 3100 block of Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City, at 3:52 a.m. today on the charges of domestic abuse battery, criminal damage to property, resisting an officer and possession of open alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.
A deputy responding to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia observed a man on scene breaking through a window. The deputy ordered him to move away from the home and Garcia refused to comply.
As the deputy detained Garcia he attempted to free himself by pulling away forcefully and swinging his arms. The deputy found evidence that Garcia broke a window in the home in an attempt to gain entry. The deputy also found that Garcia struck a woman in the face and pulled her hair during an encounter that occurred earlier in the week.
While speaking with Garcia, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The deputy located the vehicle Garcia was driving and found it still running with an open bottle of beer in a cup holder. Following the investigation, Garcia was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Dale Fromenthal, 60, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, at 6:35 a.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace excessive sound or noise.
Officers responded to a residence on Sixth Street in regards to loud music. Officers had previously gone to the residence the night before for the same complaint. Witnesses stated that once the police would leave, the individual in the home would turn the music up again.
Officers spoke to Fromenthal about the complaint. Fromenthal was then booked into jail.
—Randy L. Hatcher, 37, of Carter Lane in Berwick, at 6:40 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to a home on Egle Street in regards to an individual that appeared to be intoxicated. Officers arrived and spoke to witnesses who stated that Hatcher had come to the home causing a disturbance. Officers made contact with Hatcher, who appeared to be intoxicated. Hatcher was jailed.
—Palmer Cox IV, 51, of Oregon Street in Berwick, at 8:15 p.m. Thursday on the charges of driving under suspension and no tail lamps.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 and Sixth Street observed a vehicle with improper lighting and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Cox, had a suspended driver’s license. Cox was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Lennis Paray, 31, of Fourth Street in Berwick, at 4:05 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging him with two counts of simple battery and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. No bail is set.
—Christopher Ward, 33, of Fourth Street in Berwick, at 10:47 a.m. Thursday on the charges of failure to yield with a crash and driving under suspension. Ward posted $1,275 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
