Woman arrested on check charge

A 45-year-old Morgan City woman was charged Monday with attempting to cash a stolen check at a business, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Shawna Francois, 45, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:02 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging her with attempted theft-value $275.
Morgan City Police detectives conducted an investigation into a stolen check, which someone attempted to cash at a business, Griffin said. Police identified Francois as a suspect. Francois turned herself in to detectives at the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked into the jail, where she was later released on bail. The investigation is ongoing and another arrest is expected, police said.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 55 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jade M. Aucoin, 23, of the 400 block of Renwick Boulevard in Berwick, was arrested at 10:19 p.m. Monday on two warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court and for probation violation.
A deputy transported Aucoin from the Assumption Detention Center to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville where he was booked on the warrants. No bail is set.
—Ashley B. Chalmers, 31, of the 200 block of Ryder Drive in Lafayette, was arrested at 11:47 a.m. Monday on the charges of driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responding to a report of a reckless driver made contact with Chalmers in the Ricohoc area and learned that she was driving with a suspended license. The deputy also located items of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Chalmers was jailed and then released on a summons to appear in court July 22.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Cabot P. Pugh, 26, of the 1400 block of Victoria Riverside in Patterson, was arrested at 12:58 a.m. today on the charges of improper lane usage, failure to carry registration, possession of marijuana second offense, possession of Schedule I drug first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia second offense. Pugh was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
