Woman charged with attempted murder in Morgan City

A 21-year-old Berwick woman was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly trying to run over someone with a vehicle Monday in Morgan City, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Shanell N. Sanford, 21, of Second Street in Berwick, at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday on Morgan City Police warrants charging her attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Sanford was arrested on warrants stemming from an investigation into an incident that occurred Oct. 19 .
Officers responded to an address on La. 182 in regard to a vehicle crash and disturbance. A vehicle was located, which appeared to have struck a utility pole, and the driver was identified as Sanford. Officers learned that Sanford was involved in an argument with another individual, allegedly got into the vehicle and attempted to strike the individual with the vehicle, crashing into a utility pole, Blair said. Sanford was booked on the warrants and incarcerated.
