AES downs Hanson in district opener

BROUSSARD _ Ascension Episcopal’s Gators collected five runs over two innings on the way to an 8-3 District 7-1A opening victory over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Monday.
The loss dropped the Hanson Tigers to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in 7-1A action.
AES pitcher Sean Brady picked up the mound victory after going the distance, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Hanson’s Brennan Young took the loss after giving up five runs (one earned) on five hits with one strikeout and one walk in 2.33 innings. Peyton Trahan worked 2.67 innings in relief, surrendering one run (none earned) on two hits with two strikeouts. Jack Vaccarella pitched one frame, giving up two runs on one hits with one walk.
Hanson’s John Guienze paced the Tigers’ offensively with a 2 for 3 outing with one run and one stolen base. Luke Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with a double and a run while Spencer Bishop went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI. Josh Hebert recorded a stolen base and a walk while Brennan Young and Britt Young also had free passes.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second frame before AES answered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame, building a 4-1 advantage. AES added on run in the bottom half of the third inning for a 5-1 cushion. The Tigers scored a pair of run in the top of the fourth frame before AES struck for three insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth taking the 8-3 advantage.
The Hanson Memorial Tigers are scheduled to play host to Ascension Episcopal on Wednesday in District 7-1A action with the jayvee contest slated for 4 p.m. and the varsity game set for 6 p.m. at the Amar Lancon Field.
