Berwick advances to Ascension Episcopal tournament final

The Berwick Panthers advanced to the final of Ascension Episcopal’s tournament with a 58-39 victory against previously undefeated Episcopal School of Acadiana Tuesday.
Berwick outscored Episcopal School of Acadiana 36-18 in the second half to blow open a close game.
The teams were tied at 11 after a quarter, while Berwick took a 22-21 lead into halftime.
The Panthers extended their lead to 42-33 after three quarters before outscoring Episcopal School of Acadiana 16-6 in the final period.
Berwick connected on five three-points, led by three from Josh Carver.
Donald Tillman led the Panthers with 20 points, while Larenz Clark also reached double figures with 12 points. Other scorers included Carver and Travis Whitehead, nine points apiece; Cody Roberie and Tysin Meads, three points each; and Collin Louviere, two.
Berwick (2-0) will return to action Wednesday when it faces Ascension Episcopal in the tournament finals at 7:30 p.m.
Morgan City tops
White Castle
Morgan City defeated White Castle, 75-59, at White Castle’s tournament Tuesday.
Jared Singleton and Makye Richard led Morgan City (3-0) with 16 points each. Other scorers included Taaj Daniels, 15; Deondre Grogan, 11; Ke’Sean Francois, seven; DeAndre Long, four; Kerwin Francois, three; and Morrquise Charles and Devonte Grogan, two apiece.
CCHS Lady Eagles beat Washington-Marion
Central Catholic improved to 2-1 this season with a 46-42 victory against Washington-Marion at Lafayette Christian Academy’s tournament Tuesday.
“We have to improve our rebounding and free-throw shooting, but I am proud of our girls for beating a very physical team and being 2-1 at this point in the season with only 4 total practices,” first-year Central Catholic Coach Cory Brodie said.
Central Catholic shot just 9 of 25 (36 percent) from the free-throw line Tuesday.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 18 points, three assists and two steals. Other top contributors included Jalaysia Bertrand, 11 points, two rebounds and four steals; Sydney Williams, three points, one assist and two steals; and Taylor Picou, four rebounds and three steals.
Central Catholic returned to action Wednesday in the tournament today when it faced Acadiana at 12:40 p.m.
