Berwick, MCHS fall in volleyball action
Berwick High School fell to South Terrebonne in five games Thursday in Berwick in a contest in which the Lady Panthers took their opponents from Terrebonne Parish that went down to the very end.
After falling 25-16 in game one, Berwick took game two 25-21.
South Terrebonne took game 3 25-20 before Berwick responded with a 25-18 win in game four.
Berwick fell in the final game 16-14.
As a team, Berwick had 44 kills, 10 block and 74 digs.
Offensively, Ashton Morales and Mary Jordan Melancon led the Lady Panthers. Morales had three aces, 17 kills, four blocks, 12 assists and nine digs; while Melancon had one ace, four kills, 16 assists and 15 digs.
Other top contributors included Sydney Aucoin, nine kills, one block and five digs; Madelyn Gros, eight kills and four digs; Jordan Lipari, six kills, one block and 11 digs; Brittany Roberie, one ace, one assist and 12 digs; Rosalyn Gros, one ace and nine digs; and Emma Hover, nine digs.
Berwick (4-4) will return to action Monday at 4 p.m. when the Lady Panthers make the short trip to face Patterson High School. The contest will feature just varsity action.
Morgan City falls
in four games
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to St. Martinville in 3-1 (22-25, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25) in action in Morgan City Thursday.
In the loss, Morgan City recorded 89 digs.
Kennedy Hebert had six kills and 24 digs to lead Morgan City, while Alex Thompson had five kills, one assists, one dig and three blocks.
Other top contributors for Morgan City included Cecily Feliciano, four kills and 14 digs; Dwanna LeBeau, five kills and three digs; Allie Vincent, eight assists, three kills and six digs; Cecily Feliciano, four kills and 14 digs; Kaitlyn Gros, one ace and 14 digs; Brandi Albarado, one ace and 11 digs; and Katelyn Gautreaux, 13 digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City defeated St. Martinville 2-0 (25-14, 25-23).
Abby Reynaud led Morgan City with one ace, three kills, one block, 12 assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Sh’Diamond Holly, five kills, three blocks and one assist; Hailey Lewis, two aces, two kills and seven digs; Scottie Metrejean, nine digs; Hannah Gros, one ace and six digs; Gautreaux, seven digs; Emily Boudreaux, six digs; and McKenzie Smith, one assist and five digs.
In freshman action, Morgan City was victorious 2-0 (25-21, 25-21).
Morgan City (3-4) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Delcambre. Freshmen action will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity.
Central Catholic goes 1-1 at HLB’s tournament
Central Catholic finished 1-1 at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament Thursday, defeating Ellender before falling to Academy of Our Lady.
Central Catholic started the day with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) win against Ellender.
Quincee Wiggins led the Lady Eagles with five kills and six digs, while Taylor Picou had seven assists and Ava Nicar, three blocks.
Later Thursday, Central Catholic fell to Academy of Our Lady 2-0 (25-12, 25-13).
Autin had four kill to lead the Lady Eagles, while Katie Hoffpauir had seven assists.
Other top contributors included Picou, five assists; and Brooke Lipari, four digs.
On Wednesday, Central Catholic fell at home to Lutcher 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-16).
Autin and Wiggins led the Lady Eagles. Autin had eight kills, while Wiggins had five kills and six digs.
Other top contributors included Picou, one ace and nine assists; Hoffpauir, seven assists; Lipari, five digs; and Teryanna Johnson, two aces.
Central Catholic (3-7) will return to action Saturday at the H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament with three games.
