Morgan City and Berwick high schools squared off on the volleyball court in District

Berwick tops Morgan City in three games

The Berwick Lady Panthers knocked off the Morgan City Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) in District 6-III action Tuesday.
Berwick had four blocks and 53 digs in the victory.
Junior Ashton Morales led the Lady Panthers with seven kills, four blocks, seven assists and 13 digs.
Other top contributors included sophomore Mary Jordan Melancon, one ace, two kills, seven assists and nine digs; senior Hannah Carpenter, three kills and 12 digs; senior Abigail Askew, five kills and one block; sophomore Sydney Aucoin, six kills; junior Madeleine Hover, three kills, five assists and three digs; senior Rennen DeLatte, eight digs; and sophomore Emma Hover, one ace and two digs.
In the loss, Morgan City had 67 digs.
Senior Jaiveianna Jones led the Lady Tigers with two aces, 11 kills, one block and 10 digs.
Other top contributors included junior Karley Guidry, two kills, 10 assists and 16 digs; junior Cecily Feliciano, one kill, 11 assists and 14 digs; senior Brandi Ingram, one kill and 16 digs; junior Alex Thompson, seven kills and two digs; junior Dwanna LeBeau, five kills, one assist and three digs; and freshman Kennedy Hebert, one ace, one kill and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick won 2-1 (25-19, 14-25, 15-13).
Freshman Brittany Roberie had three kills, five assists and three digs in the win, while Emma Hover recorded one ace and 13 digs.
Other top contributors included sophomore Madalyn Gros, one ace, four kills and two digs; and sophomore Jaci Arnold, two aces and three kills.
In the loss, Morgan City recorded six aces.
Sophomore Abby Reynaud had two aces, three kills, four assists and four digs; sophomore Twanna LeBeau had five kills and one assist; and freshman Allie Vincent, two kills, six assists and four digs.
Other top contributors included sophomore Kaitlyn Gros, one ace, one kill and seven digs; sophomore Katelyn Gautreaux, seven digs; sophomore Faith Crappell, one ace and six digs; sophomore Hannah Gros, two aces, one assist and three digs; and sophomore Brandi Albarado, five digs.
In freshman action, Berwick won 2-0 (25-20, 25-20).
Roberie and Cate Koen led the Lady Panthers. Roberie had four aces, four kills, three assists and seven digs, while Koen had one ace, six kills and four digs.
Other top contributors included Hannah Henry, one ace, one kill, two assists and five digs; and Anna Armato, two aces, four assists and three digs.
Hailey Lewis and Vincent led Morgan City. Lewis had three kills, one block and six digs, while Vincent recorded one ace, three kills and five digs.
Other top contributors included Alisha Singleton, one kill and six digs; and Matti Rivere, one ace and seven digs.
Morgan City (9-13 overall, 2-3 district) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Patterson in District 6-III action. Freshman action will begin at 3:30 p.m. with junior varsity action to follow at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
Berwick (13-12 overall, 3-2 district) will continue district play Thursday when it travels to face Donaldsonville.
Central Catholic rolls past Covenant Christian
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles defeated Covenant Christian 3-0 (25-10, 25-4, 25-11).
Senior Kaitlyn Gros had 13 assists and six digs, while sophomore Hallie Autin had six kills. Freshman Quincee Wiggins had five kills; senior Brittany Longman, six aces; and sophomore Rebecca David, one block.
The Lady Eagles (11-15, 2-0) will return to action today when it hosts Assumption in a 5 p.m. contest. Assumption enters the contest ranked No. 2 in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s latest unofficial power rankings.
Patterson falls
to E.D. White
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to E.D. White 3-0 (11-25, 13-25, 11-25) in District 6-III play Tuesday at home.
Junior Nia Broussard led the squad with one ace, one point, two digs and seven assists, while junior Tamia Washington had two points, four kills and one dig.
Other top contributors were senior Jazmin Evans, one point and 10 digs; and junior Arian Grogan, two aces, two points and two kills.
Patterson (9-7 overall, 1-4 in district) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Morgan City in District 6-III action.
