The Berwick High School Panthers will resume District 9-3A play this week when it travels to face Donaldsonville Friday.
Both Berwick and Donaldsonville enter Friday’s game coming off lopsided losses a week ago. The Panthers fell to Lafayette Christian, 43-13, while Patterson defeated Donaldsonville, 45-13.
However, both Berwick and Donaldsonville were in their contests early Friday.
Berwick actually took a 7-0 lead before Lafayette Christian responded, tying the game at 7 before keeping the Panthers out of the end zone for much of the remainder of the game in the big win.
Donaldsonville tied Patterson at 7 early in last week’s contest when Davon Johnson returned it 80 yards for a score with 10:10 remaining in the contest to knot their matchup at 7.
However, Patterson would outscore the Tigers 38-7 the rest of the way for the big win.
Donaldsonville’s other touchdown came late in the first half when Donaldsonville quarterback Tyler Brown connected with Jaquel Grant for a 42-yard touchdown pass to cut Patterson’s lead to 33-13.
In Friday’s loss, Brown completed 19 of 44 pass attempts for 222 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Tigers played without standout wide receiver Stephen Sullivan, an LSU commitment.
In Berwick’s loss, the Panthers were led on offense by running back Braden Billiot, who rushed 21 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Jeremy Boudreaux, who returned from an injury, carried the ball 20 times for 58 yards.
However, as a team, Berwick totaled just 190 yards of offense, 180 of those rushing.
Billiot leads the Panthers on the ground this season with 107 carries for 721 yards and six scores, while Boudreaux has carried the football 78 times for 296 yards and a score.
Through the air, Boudreaux has completed 36 of 80 pass attempts for 442 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.
