Big fourth quarter helps MCHS top HLB, 57-43

Morgan City used a big fourth-quarter scoring advantage to take down H.L. Bourgeois, 57-43, in girls’ basketball action Friday.
While the Lady Tigers entered the final period leading just 34-32, they outscored H.L. Bourgeois 23-11 in the final stanza for the win.
Morgan City’s big quarter was fueled by 11 points by Casey Chenevert, including three, 3-pointers, and 8 points by Laqwajhia Bourgeois. Chenevert finished the game with 31 points, including five 3-pointers, while Bourgeois had 16 and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers and H.L. Bourgeois were tied at 9 after the first quarter, and Morgan City held a slim 20-19 lead at halftime.
Other top contributors for Morgan City included Meya Morse, six points; and Kaylyn Washington, four. Steveyion Walker also had eight rebounds.
Morgan City (7-3) will return to action Friday when it hosts Baker at 6 p.m. Baker was last year’s Class 3A runner-up.
Central Catholic falls to University Lab
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles fell to University Lab, 66-62 in Baton Rouge Friday.
Randi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 28 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Meo Knight scored 19 points and also recorded six rebounds, three steals and one assist.
Other top contributors included Gee Garrett, six points and one rebound; Megan Landry, five points and two rebounds; and Hallie Autin, four points and one steal.
The Lady Eagles (8-2) will return to action Thursday when they begin play in the opening round of their Lady Eagles Christmas Classic Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Terrebonne.

Patterson splits games at Hanson tournament
The Patterson Lumberjills finished 1-1 at the Hanson Memorial Holiday Classic with a 58-37 loss to E.D. White Thursday before rebounding with a 70-68 win against Franklin in double overtime Saturday.
In Saturday’s win, Nakia Brooks and Galen Grogan each recorded double doubles, as Brooks scored 25 points and recorded 15 rebounds, while Grogan had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Other top contributors included Alex Benjamin, 13 points and seven assists; Makayla Ruiz, three points and seven rebounds; Jamila Tate, six points; and Nia Broussard and Kemprielle Williams, four points apiece.
In Thursday’s loss, Brooks and Benjamin each scored 10 points, while Brooks adding five rebounds.
Other top contributors included Grogan, five points and nine rebounds; Erykah Singleton, five points and six rebounds; and Evans, three points.
Patterson (3-7) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Central Catholic’s Lady Eagles Christmas Classic. Patterson will play Ellender at 4 p.m. and Westgate at 7 p.m.
Berwick falls at
Hanson tournament
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Franklin 53-10 at the Hanson Memorial Holiday Classic Saturday.
Franklin took a 13-2 lead after the first quarter, 30-5 halftime lead and a 41-10 lead after three quarters.
Berwick, who had just five players available for the game, were led by Mickenzie Reed and Kayla Francise, who scored five points apiece.
The Lady Panthers (2-10) will return to action Jan. 3 when they host Morgan City at 5 p.m.
