CCHS falls to Cabrini

Central Catholic fell to Cabrini 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) in nondistrict volleyball action Monday.
Cabrini entered the contest as the ninth-ranked team in Division II, according to the latest unofficial power rankings released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association a week ago.
Kaitlyn Gros led the Lady Eagles with 16 assists and nine digs, while Quincee Wiggins had seven kills and Hallie Autin, six.
On Saturday, Central Catholic participated in Terrebonne’s tournament and finished 4-2, falling to H.L. Bourgeois in the consolation final (7-25, 15-25). H.L. Bourgeois was ranked No. 8 in Division I in last week’s power rankings.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Eagles fell to Academy of Our Lady and defeated Vandebilt Catholic, Covenant Christian, Terrebonne and Catholic High-New Iberia.
The Lady Eagles fell to Academy of Our Lady 2-1 (11-25, 25-16, 10-15).
Gros led the Lady Eagles with 12 assists and six digs, while Autin had five kills and three blocks and Emma Aucoin, five digs.
Academy of Our Lady was ranked No. 8 in Division II in last week’s power rankings.
Central Catholic continued the tournament with a 2-1 (25-20, 19-25, 16-14) victory against Vandebilt Catholic.
Gros had 15 assists and 12 digs to lead the Lady Eagles, while Brittany Longman and Wiggins each recorded six kills.
The Lady Eagles defeated Covenant Christian 2-0 (25-13, 25-5).
Katie Hoffpauir had seven aces for the Lady Eagles, while Longman had four kills and Gros, nine assists.
Central Catholic defeated Terrebonne 2-0 (25-18, 25-17).
Autin led Central Catholic with five kills and two blocks, while Gros had 10 assists and three aces.
Other top contributors included Aucoin, seven digs; and Rebecca David, two blocks.
Central Catholic defeated Catholic High-New Iberia 2-0 (27-25, 25-18).
Gros led Central Catholic with six kills and 14 assists, while Longman had six kills and six digs and Hoffpauir, two aces.
No individual statistics were submitted from the H.L. Bourgeois match.
On Thursday against West St. John, Central Catholic won 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-9).
Central Catholic (16-19) will return to action today when it hosts Houma Christian in District 6-V action.
Patterson takes
first place at tournament
The Patterson Lumberjills finished in first place at New Iberia’s tournament this weekend with a 6-0 mark.
Patterson defeated Northside, Delcambre, Cecilia, Byrd, Thibodaux and Delcambre a second time.
Patterson recorded 73 aces combined in the six games.
Against Northside, the Lumberjills won 2-0 (25-18, 25-18).
Patterson recorded 14 aces in the win, led by five from Tamia Washington. Washington also added seven points, five kills and one dig.
Makayla Ruiz led the squad with four aces, one point and seven kills, while Nia Broussard had one ace, three points, one dig and 16 assists.
Other top contributors included Arian Grogan, three aces, three points, two kills and one dig; Gaylen Grogan, one ace, two kills, one block and one assist; and Jazmin Evans, one kill and three digs.
Against Delcambre, the Lumberjills won 2-0 (25-14, 25-19).
Patterson recorded 14 aces in the win, led by five from Arian Grogan. She also had two points, four kills, one dig, one block and one assist.
Other top contributors included Nyria Robinson, three aces, four points, three kills and three digs; Gaylen Grogan, two aces, two points, three kills and one block; Ruiz, three aces, one point, one kill and two digs; Broussard, two points, five digs and eight assists; and Evans, six digs.
Against Cecilia, Patterson won 2-1 (25-13, 24-26, 15-2).
Patterson again had a solid day serving with 18 aces while also recording four blocks.
Arian Grogan led the Lumberjills at the serving line with eight aces. She also added 11 points, two kills, one dig and three blocks.
Other top contributors included Gaylen Grogan, one point, eight kills, one dig, one block and one assist; Robinson, four aces, one point, five kills and two digs; Washington, three aces, six points, four kills and four digs; Broussard, two aces, four points, one kill, two digs and 12 assists.
Patterson defeated Byrd 2-0 (25-22, 25-11).
The Lumberjills recorded 11 aces in the win, led by three each from Robinson, Ruiz and Arian Grogan. Robinson added eight points, two kills and one dig; Ruiz had one point, two kills and one dig; and Arian Grogan, two points and two kills.
Gaylen Grogan led the Lumberjills with seven kills, two digs and one block, while Washington had two aces, four points and three kills.
Other top contributors included Broussard, three points and 12 assists; and Evans, six digs.
Against Thibodaux, the Lumberjills won 2-0 (25-14, 25-20).
Patterson had 10 aces and two blocks in the win. Evans had four aces to lead the squad, while Gaylen Grogan recorded the team’s two blocks. Evans also added one point and 12 digs, while Gaylen Grogan recorded two points, one ace, two kills and one assist.
Other top contributors for Patterson included Ruiz, two aces, six kills, one point and two digs; Washington, one ace, seven points, three kills and one dig; Broussard, one ace, three points, two digs and 11 assists; and Arian Grogan, one ace and four kills.
In its second game against Delcambre, Patterson won 2-0 (25-18, 25-21).
Patterson had six aces in the win, including two each by Arian Grogan and Robinson. Arian Grogan added three points, four kills and one block, while Robinson also contributed two points and three kills.
Other top contributors for Patterson included Robinson, two aces, two points and three kills; Broussard, one ace, three points, one dig and seven assists; and Evans and Tye Williams, three digs each.
Patterson, who snapped a four-game losing streak with this weekend’s performance, will return to action today when it hosts Donaldsonville in District 6-III action. Junior varsity is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
Berwick finishes 3-1 at Terrebonne’s tournament
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished 3-1 at Terrebonne’s tournament with wins against South Lafourche, Lafayette Christian and Archbishop Hannan, but fell to Brusly.
Berwick defeated South Lafourche 2-0 (25-10, 25-8).
Ashton Morales led Berwick with 11 kills, two blocks and five assists; Hannah Carpenter had three kills and nine digs; and Mary Jordan Melancon, three kills, six assists and two digs.
Other top contributors included Jordan Lipari, three aces, three kills and three assists; Sydney Aucoin, five kills; and Abigail Askew, two kills and two blocks.
Berwick defeated Lafayette Christian 2-1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-6)
Morales had one ace, five kills, two blocks, four assists and two digs, while Askew had 11 kills.
Other top contributors for Berwick were Carpenter, three kills and 19 digs; Rennen DeLatte, one kill and 13 digs; Melancon, two kills four assists and four digs; Aucoin, five kills and two digs; Lipari, one ace and six kills; and Roslyn Gros, six digs.
Against Archbishop Hannan, Berwick won 2-1 (27-25, 20-25, 15-10).
Berwick had seven blocks in the win, including four by Askew. Askew also added five kills and one dig.
Morales led the squad with three aces, five kills, two blocks, four assists and 12 digs.

Berwick had nine blocks in the contest, five from Askew and four from Morales. Askew also added four kills, while Morales had six kills, six assists and five digs.

Morgan City finishes 1-3
in New Iberia
Morgan City finished 1-3 at New Iberia’s tournament with a win against St. Martinville and losses to Academy of Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau, St. Thomas More and Acadiana.
Academy of Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau entered the weekend ranked No. 3 in the latest unofficial Division V power rankings released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, while St. Martinville was No. 11 in Division II; and St. Thomas More, No. 3 in Division II.
Morgan City fell to Academy of Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau 2-0 (18-25, 14-25), St. Thomas More 2-0 (22-25, 14-25) and Acadiana 2-1 (24-26, 26-24, 14-16).
The Lady Tigers defeated St. Martinville 2-1 (25-19, 15-25, 15-12).
No individual statistics were available from these matches.
