CCHS moves up in prep poll

Central Catholic moved up two spots in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll as the Eagles now are ranked No. 7.
The move came after Central Catholic defeated Class 2A Opelousas Catholic, 32-20, on Friday to improve to 2-0.
Central Catholic received 64 points in this week’s poll.
Kentwood became the third team in as many weeks to hold the No. 1 spot after the previous No. 1 team, Southern Lab, fell to University Lab Friday. Kentwood (2-0), who moved up a spot from a week ago, received nine first-place votes and 119 points.
Southern Lab is ranked No. 3.
Central Catholic is one of three teams from District 7-1A ranked in the top 10 along with Vermilion Catholic (1-1) and Ascension Episcopal (2-0). Vermilion Catholic leads the district with a No. 4 ranking, down a spot from a week ago after falling to Kaplan. The squad received 77 points. Ascension Episcopal is ranked No. 5 with 76 points. The Blue Gators rose two spots from a week ago following a win against Catholic-Pointe Coupee.
Meanwhile, in Class 3A, Patterson (0-2) continued to fall in the rankings as the team fell out the top 10 this week and received one vote following a 38-7 loss to Class 5A Hahnville.
Patterson, ranked No. 10 a week ago, will return to action Friday when it travels to face Catholic High-New Iberia. Catholic High received eight votes in this week’s Class 2A poll, the second most outside the top 10 behind Madison Prep. Last week, Catholic High defeated Erath.
Like in Class 1A, Class 3A has its third No. 1 team in as many weeks as North Webster is this week’s new top team after Parkview Baptist fell to Riverside Academy last week. North Webster (2-0) received five first-place votes and 111 points after defeating Homer last week.

Two of Patterson’s District 8-3A opponents received recognition this week, E.D. White (1-1) and Kaplan (2-0). E.D. White, which slipped from No. 7 to No. 9 following a loss to Lakeshore last week, received 39 points, while Kaplan is the top vote-getter outside the top 10 with 26 points after topping Vermilion Catholic last week.
In Class 4A, Neville remained No. 1 with 10 first-place votes and 120 points after defeating Maumelle High School of Arkansas.
