CCHS outlasts H.L. Bourgeois in five games
Central Catholic outlasted H.L. Bourgeois 3-2 (13-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14, 17-15) in nondistrict volleyball action on Senior Night in Morgan City Thursday.
Hallie Autin and Yani Johnson led the squad in the win against Division 1’s 10th-ranked squad. Autin had 14 kills and 20 digs, while Johnson had 15 kills and six blocks.
Other top contributors included Katie Hoffpauir, 16 assists, three aces and 13 digs; Quincee Wiggins, six kills and 14 digs; Taylor Picou, 13 assists and eight digs; Brooke Lipari, 15 digs; Lindsee Case, seven kills and two blocks; Ava Nicar, three kills and three blocks; and Hanna McCue, two kills and three blocks.
Central Catholic (18-21) now will await its postseason seeding in Division V and its opponent, which is scheduled to be announced Monday.
Berwick tops Patterson
Berwick High School topped Patterson High School 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-16) on Senior Night in Berwick Thursday.
Berwick had 15 aces and 21 kills in the win.
Ashton Morales led the squad with three aces, 10 kills, seven assists and 12 digs.
Other top contributors included Sydney Aucoin, 10 kills and three digs; Mary Jordan Melancon, one ace, one kill, 13 assists and five digs; Madelyn Gros, two aces, four kills and eight digs; Jordan Lipari, seven aces, three kills and five digs; Brittany Roberie, one ace and eight digs; and Emma Hover, seven digs.
Patterson had five aces and eight blocks in the loss.
Erykah Singleton led Patterson with five kills, one dig and six blocks, while Morgan Jones had two kills, six digs and two blocks.
Other top contributors included Arian Grogan, three aces, two kills and two digs; Tapanga Haven, one ace, two digs and one assist; Madison Paul, three digs and one assist; Katelyn Larson, two digs and one assist; Josie Merida, one dig and one assist; and Madison Goolsby, one assist.
In junior varsity action, Berwick defeated Patterson 2-0, although no scores of individual games were available.
On Tuesday, Patterson defeated David Thibodaux 3-1 (25-10, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18) in District 2-IV play.
Patterson had 12 aces and six blocks in the win.
Grogan led Patterson with four aces, seven kills, one dig and three blocks.
Other top contributors included Singleton, five kills and three blocks; Kaitlynn Spradling, three aces and two digs; Larson, six digs; and Merida, four assists.
Patterson (8-19) now will wait to see if it made the field of 24 in the Division IV postseason, while Berwick (14-18) will await its playoff seeding in the Division III playoffs.
MCHS returns
to action Saturday
Morgan City High School is the area’s lone volleyball team in action this weekend as the Tigers will participate in Episcopal of Baton Rouge’s tournament Saturday.
The Lady Tigers (10-19) will meet Denham Springs at 8:30 a.m., Zachary at 9:30 a.m., Runnels at 11 a.m. and Episcopal at noon.
