CCHS qualifies a pair of doubles teams for state tournament

Central Catholic qualified two doubles teams for the Division IV state tournament in regional action Monday and Tuesday in New Orleans.
The girls doubles team of Emma Thomas and Ashley Daigle advanced to the regional semifinals before falling, while the boys doubles team of Gavin Wisdom and Jon Gilmore qualified, even though they fell in the regional quarterfinals.
Wisdom and Gilmore, who had a first-round bye, defeated Warren Davis and Luke Hansel of Northlake Christian, 6-4, 6-4, in the round of 16, qualifying them for the state tournament.
In the quarterfinals, they fell to James Amoss and Evan Hendricks of Newman, 6-0, 6-0.
Thomas and Daigle, who received a first-round bye, defeated Ella Paton and Cece Robert of Louis Magee, 6-4, 6-0, advancing them the regional quarterfinals and qualifying them for the state tournament.
In the regional quarterfinals, the Central Catholic duo defeated Celia Hardin and Elanore Williams from Newman, 6-4, 7-6, after fighting off three second-set set points.
In the semifinals, they fell to Caroline Marcus and Lindsey Page of Newman, 6-4, 6-0, Tuesday.
In other girls singles action Monday, Central Catholic’s Elise Hidalgo and Kerrilyn Luc advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Kathlee Bourne and Mia Milton of St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-1, 6-2. However, they fell in the round of 16 to Sydney Gressaffa and Annamarie Wingerter of Pope John Paul, 6-1, 6-1.
Also, Central Catholic’s Lindsee Case fell to Hoyel Lee of Haynes Academy in the round of 16, 6-0, 6-2, while Central Catholic’s Grace Granger fell to Alexandra Herman of Newman, 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16.
In other girls doubles action, Central Catholic’s Elsie Daigle and Katie Navarro fell in the round of 32 to Anne Kallenborn and Mollie Wormser of Louis Magee, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
In other boys singles action, Andy Chen of St. Martin’s Episcopal defeated Central Catholic’s Luke Brinkley in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-3, while Michael Condon of Pope John Paul defeated Central Catholic’s Connor Hebert, 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 16.
