Morgan City beats
New Iberia
The Morgan City High School baseball team defeated New Iberia 8-0 in action at New Iberia’s tournament Thursday.
“The kids did their jobs well and earned a very big win over 13th ranked 5A New Iberia,” Morgan City High Coach Tim Vidos said.
Ethan Scioneaux earned the win for Morgan City. In seven innings, he surrendered two hits, two walks and fanned three.
“Again, Ethan pitched very well and with the excellent play of (Philip) Hutchinson and (Abram) Hartley in the middle, we never gave NISH a chance to mount any type of scoring threat,” Vidos said.
Morgan City started the scoring off early with three runs in the first inning.
With the bases loaded, Matt Lorenzo doubled to deep centerfield clearing the bases, but Lorenzo was thrown out trying to get a triple on the play.
The Tigers added runs in the fourth and fifth innings via walks with the bases loaded for the final margin.
Hutchinson also brought home a run on a groundball.
Josh Lorenzo had two hits for Morgan City, while Matt Lorenzo had a hit.
“We were very patient at the plate and took advantage of the struggling NISH pitchers,” Vidos said.
On defense, Morgan City turned five double plays.
Morgan City (4-8) will return to action today when it takes on Westgate in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
“We need to bring that intensity back to New Iberia tonight when we play Westgate, our last game before opening district next week,” Vidos said.
