Centerville improves to 14-5 following win over Gueydan

GUEYDAN _ Centerville improved to 14-5 and 6-2 in 7-1A following Friday’s 89-32 victory over the Gueydan Bears here at the GHS Gym.
Gueydan is now 1-19 overall and 1-7 in 7-1A.
Centerville will host Central Catholic on Tuesday while Gueydan will host Ascension Episcopal.
Centerville built a lop-sided 36-8 lead in the first quarter of which it never relinquished. Centerville, which outscored Gueydan in three of the first four quarters, went on a 19-4 second quarter lead for an insurmountable 55-12 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs benefited from an incredible 29-3 run in the third quarter for an 84-15 flurry. Gueydan finished with a 17-5 run in the fourth quarter as Centerville soared to an 89-32 District 7-1A triumph.
Nine Centerville players got in on the scoring in the huge league victory.
Jaylon Williams tossed in a game-high 27 points on 8-2’s, 3-3’s 2 of 2 FTs to help propel Centerville.
Other top scorers for the Bulldogs were: Jackson Hebert, 7-2’s, 3 of 4 FTs, 17 points; Lance Howard 5-2’s, 2-3’s FTs, 12 points; Marquis Strawder, 4-2’s, 3 of 5 FTs, 11 points; Jaqualon Bourgeois 3-2’s, 6 points; Deandre Kinchen 2-2’s, 1 of 3, FTs, 5 points; Tykeith Joseph, 2-2’s, 4 points; Collin Deslatte, 2-2’s, 4 points and Ryan Young 1-2, 1 of 2 FTs, 3 points.
Centerville canned 12 of 19 free throws while committing 11 fouls on the night.

GUEYDAN 60, CENTERVILLE 32
The Gueydan Honey Bears earned a 60-32 win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs here Friday in District 7-1A action at the GHS Gymnasium.
GHS rolled to an 18-11 lead in the first quarter before claiming a 33-22 cushion at the half thanks to a 15-11 second quarter run. Gueydan widened its lead to 51-27 after an 18-5 run in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Gueydan went on a 9-5 run to secure the 60-32 league win.
Leading scorers for the Centerville Lady Bulldogs were: Rylie Candella, 19; Alyrria Austin, 11 and Alyssa Luchitz, 2.
Centerville will play host to Central Catholic on Tuesday at the CHS Gym.
