Central Catholic finishes undefeated at its tourney

Central Catholic finished 3-0 at its annual softball tournament Saturday with wins against Ellender, Houma Christian and Patterson.
The Lady Eagles picked up a 2-0 victory against Ellender, a 6-1 win against Houma Christian and a 2-0 victory against Patterson.
Against Ellender, the Lady Eagles plated a run apiece in the fifth and seventh innings.
Megan Landry earned the win for the Lady Eagles. In seven innings, she tossed a two hitter with 14 strikeouts.
Offensively, Landry finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Brooke Lipari was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
Against Houma Christian, Central Catholic plated a run in the first and three more in the third for a 4-0 lead.
While Houma Christian scored a run in the sixth, the Lady Eagles came back with two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Landry earned the win. In seven innings, she surrendered one earned run on three hits with one walk and fanned eight.
Offensively, Emma Aucoin led the Lady Eagles with a 3-for-3 performance with a stolen base and two runs.
Brittany Longman finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run.
Brooke Lipari finished 2-for-3, with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Against Patterson, Patterson scored the game’s two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Landry tossed a no-hitter with one walk and 14 strikeouts.
Offensively, Taylor Picou finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Hallie Autin, 1-for-3, an RBI.
While Central Catholic was scheduled to play a makeup game with Catholic High-New Iberia today, that game has been canceled due to Catholic High having to make up district games, Central Catholic head coach Joe Russo said.
The Lady Eagles (9-1) now will hit the field again Tuesday when they open District 7-1A action against Vermilion Catholic in a 5 p.m. contest.
Patterson finishes 1-2 at CCHS tourney
Patterson High finished 1-2 at the Central Catholic tournament with a 15-0 win against West St. Mary and losses to Ellender and Central Catholic by identical 2-0 margins.
Against West St. Mary, Ashlynn Rock finished 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI, while Cayla Wiggins was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Other top offensive contributors included Bailey Nelson, 1-for-2, two RBIs and a run; and Nia Broussard, two runs, an RBI.
Against Ellender, Nelson finished 1-for-2 with a single, while Haven was 1-for-2 with a single.
Against Central Catholic, Ashley Bonilla and Gaylen Grogan each recorded a walk.
Patterson (4-8) will return to action today when it hosts Central Lafourche in a 4 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes 1-2 at Teurlings Invitational
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished 1-2 at the Teurlings Invitational with a win against Acadiana and losses to Notre Dame and Comeaux.
On Saturday, Berwick fell 8-6 to Notre Dame and defeated Acadiana 9-7.
On Sunday, the squad fell 5-4 to Comeaux.
Against Notre Dame, Berwick rebounded from a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the third.
However, Notre Dame countered with four runs in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-3 lead.
While Berwick cut its deficit to 7-6 in the top of the sixth, Notre Dame plated a run in the bottom of the frame for the final.
Rennen DeLatte suffered the loss for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered eight runs on 15 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Jordan Lipari had two hits, including a double, while Shannon Theriot and Madelyn Gros each had two hits to lead the Lady Panthers.
Notre Dame outhit Berwick 15-9.
Against Acadiana, much of the scoring occurred in the first inning as Berwick erupted for seven runs in the top of the frame and Acadiana came back with five in the bottom of the frame.
Berwick countered with a run in the second, while Acadiana scored a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Each team scored a run in the sixth.
Shelby Bergeron led Berwick with three hits, while other top contributors included Gros and Theriot with two hits apiece.
Hits were even at 11 apiece among the teams.
Sydney Aucoin suffered the loss for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered seven runs on one hit with four walks and fanned three.
On Sunday, Berwick led as much as 4-0 against Comeaux after three innings before Comeaux tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lafayette-area team scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Lipari suffered the loss for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered five runs on seven hits with four walks.
Offensively, Berwick was led by Bergeron with three hits.
Berwick (5-9) will return to action today when it hosts Catholic High-Pointe Coupee in a 4 p.m. contest. Catholic High was a Class 1A semifinalist a year ago.
