CHS mauls ESA
CENTERVILLE _ Cole Candella ripped a solo homer and Christian Arias slammed a triple, leading the Centerville Bulldogs to a 12-2 victory over the Episcopal School of Acadiana Falcons in an abbreviated contest here Tuesday in non-district action.
Centerville (6-4) notched its second consecutive win over ESA in as many weeks.
Candella blasted his solo shot over the left-centerfield fence, triggering the Bulldogs’ five-run fifth-inning uprising. Candella’s round-tripper sent the Bulldogs out to a 9-2 advantage over the Falcons.
Also keying Centerville’s five-run explosion were timely hits off the bats of Sean Querrad, Christian Arias, Matt LeBourgeois and Cameron Pogue, who lined an RBI-single which turned out to be the game-winning run after the 10-run rule went in to affect.
Centerville hurler Logan Broussard earned the mound victory after tossing five complete innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Leading hitters for Centerville included: Cole Candella, 2 for 3, homer, RBI; Christian Arias, 3 for 3, triple, RBI; Matt LeBourgeois, 2 for 3, 3 RBI; Logan Broussard, 2 for 4, 2 RBI; Sean Querrard, 1 for 3 and Cameron Pogue, 1 for 4.
Centerville posted a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning before adding three insurance runs in the fourth frame and five more in the fifth inning for the 12-2 victory.
Centerville will play host to Bell City on Thursday at 4 p.m.
