Class 1A All-State football team

Central Catholic was represented on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State team by four honorable mention selections.
Senior wide receiver Tyler Hoffpauir and senior offensive linemen Joe Michel along with junior linebacker Garret LeBlanc and sophomore running back Stefano Guarisco all were chosen for the squad.
“I think it’s a great honor,” Central Catholic coach David Fuhrer said. “Obviously we didn’t have a great record, but we were able to make the playoffs. These guys are hard workers and competitors, and I’m just very proud of their effort they put forth this year to help us be a good football team.”
Central Catholic finished its season with a 5-7 mark, falling in the regional round of the Division 4 playoffs.
Fuhrer noted that the honor is also a team honor to have that many players get all-state recognition.
While the squad dropped its first five games of the season — three of those against teams in larger classifications — it rebounded to win five of its final seven games before falling to eventual state champion and District 8-1A foe Vermilion Catholic in the regional round of the postseason.
Vermilion Catholic was represented on the first team by Connor Menard at wide receiver, Kyle Zenon at offensive line and quarterback Brennan Gallet.
The Screaming Eagles had four honorable mention selections in running back Michael Campbell, defensive linemen Trey Ryder, linebacker Tristen Kelly and defensive back Tyler Derouen.
Lafayette Christian running back Dylan Hargrave also made the squad.
Kemme Weeks of Class 1A runner-up Mangham was named Outstanding Offensive player, while Will Daniel and Jeff Tannehill, both of Division 4 runner-up St. Frederick, were named Outstanding Defensive Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.
Hoffpauir had 66 receptions for 785 yards and nine scores, while Guarisco finished the season with 176 carries for 1,091 yards and 12 touchdowns as well as 38 receptions for 597 yards and five scores. He also return 17 punts for 167 yards and a score and 23 kickoffs for 413 yards and a touchdown.
Michel was part of an offensive line that churned out 294.7 yards per game.
The senior made honorable mention all-state despite making second-team all-district on the offensive line.
Fuhrer credited a few coaches in the district for the help in pushing him to an honorable mention all-state choice.
LeBlanc recorded 75 tackles, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries despite missing nearly two games.
He was part of a defense that, despite its youth, surrendered just 261.8 yards a contest.
