By ZACHARY FITZGERALD zfitzgerald@daily-review.com

A 36-year-old Patterson man was arrested Friday after he attacked a female knocking her down, repeatedly punching her, and then the man was stabbed with a pocket knife after several other people intervened, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Leo G. Vaughn, 36, of the 100 block of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 1:05 a.m. Friday for second degree domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse battery, simple battery, and disturbing the peace intoxicated.
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance in progress at a residence on Natalie Lane. The deputy learned from witnesses that Vaughn attacked a female during a verbal argument, knocking her to the floor and hitting her in the face repeatedly with his fists, Hebert said.
As another female attempted to intervene, Vaughn struck her on the side of the head. In defense of the two females, a male at the residence began stabbing Vaughn with a pocket knife until Vaughn stopped hitting the female who had been pushed to the floor, Hebert said. At that point, Vaughn exited the residence.
One of the females then locked the door until deputies arrived. The other female sustained fractures to her face and head. She and Vaughn were taken to a local hospital for treatment, Hebert said. Vaughn was then jailed with no bail set.
