Eagles, Panthers finish undefeated this weekend

Central Catholic finished undefeated at the Central Catholic Baseball Tournament in Amelia this weekend with wins against Houma Christian and Central Lafourche
On Saturday, the Eagles used a big third inning to take control in an 8-1 win against Central Lafourche.
While Central Catholic trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the third, the Eagles plated five runs in their third inning at bat and added two more in the bottom of the fourth and a run in the bottom of the sixth. Central Lafourche plated a run in the top of the seventh.
Bryson Barbier earned the win. In six innings, he surrendered an unearned run on three hits with two walks and fanned six.
Matthew Barbier led the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with a triple, two RBIs and a run, while Samuel Guarisco finished 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Other top contributors for the Eagles included Bryson Barbier, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI and two runs; Nick Case, 1-for-1, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; Tyler Hoffpauir, 1-for-4, and an RBI; Barron Courtney, 1-for-3, a double and a run; and Sage Thibodaux, an RBI.
Central Catholic overcame six errors for the dominant win. The Eagles also left 12 runners on base.
On Friday, Central Catholic run-ruled Houma Christian 10-0 in five innings.
The Eagles scored in every inning except the fourth, plating two runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and four more in the fifth.
Hoffpauir led the squad with a 1-for-2 performance with a triple, two RBIs and a run, while Stefano Guarisco finished with 1-for-1, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs, and Charlie Barron, 1-for-2, two RBIs and a run. Other top contributors included TJ Ruffin, 1-for-1, an RBI, and Barron Courtney, an RBI.
Samuel Guarisco earned the complete-game victory. In five innings, he surrendered a hit, walked two and fanned three.
Houma Christian committed five errors in the loss, while Central Catholic left seven runners on base.
Central Catholic (8-1) will return to action Tuesday when it faces E.D. White at home in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes 3-0 at Chalmette tourney
The Berwick Panthers finished 3-0 at the Chalmette tourney with wins against Grace King, John Ehret and East Jefferson.
Against Grace King, the Panthers won 5-4 as Berwick held off a late charge by their opponents.
While Berwick took a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh after scoring two runs each in the second and sixth innings and another in the fifth, Grace King plated four runs in the final frame.
Neal Theriot came on to preserve the win and get the save after Berwick relievers ran into control problems, Berwick assistant coach Lud Henry said.
In 0.2 innings pitched, Theriot surrendered no runs or hits or walks and fanned one.
Brannon Melancon started the game and earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered no runs on two hits with two walks and fanned four.
Nick Duthu led the Panthers at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI, while Brooks Richard finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Other top contributors included Daniel Gray, 2-for-2, and Justin Morvant, an RBI.
Against John Ehret, Berwick recorded a 4-0 shutout as the Panthers scored three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the win.
Duthu earned the win. In seven innings, he surrendered three hits, walked three, hit a batter and fanned 11.
He also led the Panthers at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and two RBIs, while Morvant was 2-for-3.
John Ehret finished the game with just two runners reaching scoring position.
Against East Jefferson, Berwick recorded an 11-1 run-rule victory in five innings.
The Panthers scored all of their runs in the third through fifth innings. The Panthers plated five runs in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Tim Shelby earned the win as he tossed a one-hitter. In five innings, he surrendered a walk and fanned five.
Duthu again led the Berwick offense with a 2-for-4 performance with two doubles and four RBIs. Other top contributors included Micah Soileau, 2-for-2, two RBIs; Gray, 2-for-2, an RBI; and Morvant, 2-for-3, an RBI.
East Jefferson finished the game with just one runner in scoring position.
Berwick (7-3) will return to action today when it hosts Highland Baptist. Junior varsity will begin at 3:30 p.m. with varsity to follow at 5:30 p.m.
MCHS wins lone game at Chalmette Tourney
At the Chalmette Tournament, Morgan City won its lone game this weekend with a 4-2 victory against Riverdale.
Morgan City never trailed, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Tigers plated runs via an Evan Stadalis single to drive in John Ross McNemar, a bases loaded walk to Abram Hartley to score Brady Fryou and a Cameron Marcantel sacrifice fly to left field to score Ethan Scioneaux.
The Tigers took a 4-0 lead after Marcantel drove in Matt Lorenzo on a groundout to shortstop.
Riverdale plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and left the bases loaded.
Grant Perry earned the win for Morgan City. In 4.1 innings, he surrendered no runs on two hits and fanned four.
Ethan Scioneaux earned the save. In 2.2 innings of relief, he surrendered two runs on three hits and fanned one.
McNemar led Morgan City with a 3-for-4 performance, while Hartley finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, Stadalis, 1-for-3, and an RBI, and Marcantel, two RBIs.
Morgan City (4-4) will return to action Thursday when it faces Central Catholic in Amelia in a game that is part of E.D. White’s tournament.
Patterson goes 0-2 at
CCHS Tournament
The Patterson Lumberjacks finished 0-2 this weekend at the Central Catholic Tournament, falling to Central Lafourche Friday and Hanson Saturday.
On Friday, the Lumberjacks were no-hit by Central Lafourche in a 3-0 loss.
Central Lafourche scored a run each in the first, fourth and seventh innings for the win.
Joel Singleton took the loss for the Lumberjacks. In five innings, he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with three walks and fanned two.
In two innings of relief, Jamey Fabre surrendered an earned run on a hit with a walk and fanned one.
In Saturday’s contest, Hanson broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the fourth inning with six runs and added two more in the top of the seventh for the victory.
Patterson, who had cut the deficit to 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth inning, plated a run in its final at bat.
Patterson was hurt in the contest by seven errors.
“Defense let us down,” Patterson coach Ryan Jensen said. “You can’t win making (seven) errors. There is no excuse for that. Our at bats were pretty good, but it is of little value when you don’t make routine plays. We are better than that. We showed that (Thursday) and (Friday). I’m confident that we will come out Monday ready to make up for that performance.”
Spencer Landry took the loss Saturday. In four innings, he surrendered 10 runs — six earned — on eight hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
Fabre also pitched 2.1 innings of relief and surrendered two runs — one earned — with no hits, three walks and fanned two.
Offensively, Landry finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs, while Tyrik Singleton was 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Jake Lagrange, 1-for-3, an RBI; Kenny Singleton, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Joel Singleton, an RBI.
Patterson (6-5) will return to action today when it plays Avoyelles in a 6 p.m. contest at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
