Hanson ends CCHS’
district win streak
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers halted Central Catholic’s district softball winning streak at 29 games Tuesday as the home standing Lady Tigers knocked off the Lady Eagles 4-2.
The game was the first district loss for Central Catholic since it fell to Hanson April 10, 2012, in an 8-0 defeat in Franklin.
In Tuesday’s game, a battle of top 10 teams according to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, Central Catholic took as 1-0 lead after one inning.
Hanson came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Central Catholic tied the game at 2 in the top of the fifth.
However, Hanson took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Central Catholic entered the game ranked No. 2 in the latest power rankings, while Hanson was No. 9.
Megan Landry suffered the loss for Central Catholic Tuesday.
In seven innings, she surrendered four runs — three earned — on five hits with one walk and fanned eight.
Offensively, Central Catholic was limited to just three hits, led by Landry’s 2-for-4 performance with an RBI. Kaitlyn Gros had an RBI in the loss.
While Central Catholic could have earned at least a share of the District 7-1A title with a win Tuesday, they still can do so if they win their final two district contests, a home game Thursday against Ascension Episcopal, and a contest next Tuesday at Lafayette Christian.
Central Catholic (19-3 overall, 8-1 in district) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a 1 p.m. contest.
