E.D. White roars back to defeat Berwick in five games

Berwick High School couldn’t hold on to a two-set lead against E.D. White in District 8-III play Wednesday in Berwick as the Cardinals came storming back for a 3-2 (26-24, 25-19, 18-25, 19-25, 12-15) win.
Berwick had 38 kills, 14 aces and 134 digs Wednesday.
Sydney Aucoin led the squad with 15 kills, one assist, four digs and two solo blocks. Other top contributors included Alyssa Gray, two kills, 15 assists, 24 digs and one solo block; Brittney Roberie, one kill, three aces and 37 digs; Mary Jordan Melancon, six kills, 11 assists and 16 digs; Jordan Lipari, five kills, one assist, seven aces and 11 digs; Roslyn Gros, one ace and 23 digs; Emma Hover, two aces and 13 digs; and Lauren Skinner, seven kills, one assist, four digs and one solo block.
On Tuesday, Berwick swept Franklin 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-2) in district action in Franklin.
Gray led Berwick with three kills, eight assists, eight aces, eight digs and one solo block. Other top contributors included Roberie, five aces and 14 digs; Melancon, two kills, six assists and 10 digs; Aucoin, eight kills and five digs; Lipari, six kills, one ace, one dig and one block assist; and Gros, one ace and eight digs.
Berwick (7-13 overall, 1-3 in district) won’t return to action until Oct. 13 when it travels to face Morgan City in the Lady Tigers’ annual “Paint the Pit Pink” contest. It’s also a district contest.
CCHS defeats Madison Prep in four games
Central Catholic defeated Madison Prep 3-1 (25-12, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19) in Morgan City Wednesday.
Central Catholic had 42 kills, 10 aces and 14 solo blocks Wednesday.
Individually, Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 14 kills, one ace, six digs and one solo block. Other top contributors included Katie Hoffpauir, two kills, 19 assists, one ace and five digs; Taylor Picou, four kills, 12 assists, one ace and four digs; Quincee Wiggins, four kills, three aces, seven digs and one block assist; Yani Johnson, eight kills, one dig, and five solo blocks; Sydney Williams, five kills, one dig, and three solo blocks; Brooke Lipari, two aces and six digs; and Rebecca David, one assist, two digs and four solo blocks.
Central Catholic (21-10) will return to action Thursday when it begins District 6-V play at home against West St. John.
Vandebilt sweeps MCHS
Vandebilt Catholic swept Morgan City 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-12) in District 8-III play in Houma Tuesday.
Abby Reynaud led Morgan City with 12 assists, one ace and four digs. Other top contributors included Sh’diamond Holly, eight kills; Mckenzi Smith, one kill and five digs; Katelyn Gautreaux, six digs; and Hannah Gros, two aces.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (28-26, 25-16).
Nia Lightfoot led Morgan City with three kills, one ace, four digs and three solo blocks. Other top contributors included Smith, one kill, five assists and two digs; Hallie Blanchard, two kills, one ace and three digs; and Daysha Tivet, five digs.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-10, 25-10).
Randasha Grogan led Morgan City with two kills and one dig. Other top contributors included Jamia Francois, one kill, one dig and one block; Sarajane Nini, two assists; and Brittanie Girard, one kill, one ace.
Morgan City (6-15, 1-1) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Franklin in District 8-III action.
Lumberjills fall
to CHNI in 3
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Catholic High-New Iberia 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) in District 2-IV volleyball action in New Iberia Tuesday.
Patterson had nine aces Tuesday.
Individually, Makayla Ruiz led Patterson with one ace, eight kills and 10 digs. Other top contributors included Josie Merida, two aces, eight digs and four assists; Tapanga Haven, eight digs and one assist; Katelyn Larson, one dig and seven assists; Madison Paul, five aces and two digs; and Erykah Singleton, four kills, one dig and one block.
In junior varsity action, Patterson won 2-0 (27-25, 25-17).
Patterson had 11 aces.
Individually, Kara Lawrence led Patterson with three aces, one kill and three digs. Other top contributors included Kathryn Craddock, two aces, two digs and three assists; Ashlynn Rock, one ace, three kills and one block; Briyanna Butler, one ace, three kills and one dig; and Makenna Lagarde, three digs.
Patterson (3-9, 1-1) will return to action Thursday when it hosts David Thibodaux in district play.
