Guienze, Hanson shuts down AES

John Guienze hurled a four-hit shutout, lifting the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 5-0 victory over the Ascension Episcopal Gators Wednesday at the Amar Lancon Field.
Guienze recorded the mound victory, keeping the Gators’ batters at bay while leading Hanson to an 8-6 overall record, including a 1-1 District 7-1A mark. Guienze faced 26 batters, giving up no runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. He tossed 88 total pitches, throwing 68 strikes with 20 balls over seven complete innings.
Guienze outdueled AES’ Dooley, who went six frames, allowing five runs (2 earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Dooley totaled 93 pitches with 32 balls and 61 strikes.
Bo Barrilleaux paced the Tigers’ hitters with a 2 for 3 outing which included a two-run homer. John Guienze helped his own cause with a 1 for 3 effort, including a double. Brennan Young was 1 for 3 while Chase Mensman went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Britt Young was 1 for 2 with 2 runs while Spencer Bishop recorded one RBI along with one run.
On the day, Hanson’s Luke Lancon and John Higdon received free passes while Brennan Young, Brock Broussard stole one base with Luke Lancon swiping two bases and Britt Young stealing a total of three bases.
Hanson broke a scoreless tie with three runs highlighted by Bo Barrilleaux’s two-run dinger. Britt Young triggered the rally at 1-0 after reaching by error before swiping second base and later tagging home plate. Spencer Bishop later reached on error before Bo Barrilleaux liked what he saw in Dooley’s offering, planting it over the centerfield fence for a two-run homer, giving Hanson a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the third frame.
Britt Young gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead in the fifth frame after singling, stealing second and scoring later.
In the sixth inning, John Guienze laced a double before Luke Rodriguez reached on an error as the Tigers recorded the 5-0 victory.
