Guienze, Hebert turn in gems in HMS Tigers’ victories

Pitchers John Guienze and Jacob Hebert turned in memorable pitching gems, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to historic victories Saturday and Friday in District 7-1A action.
Guienze outdueled a pair of Central Catholic pitchers on Saturday leading the HMS Tigers to a 3-1 District 7-A victory while upping his current record to 5-0, including a 3-0 league record while notching his third complete game victory on the season.
On Friday, Hebert tossed a no-hitter while flirting with a perfect game after facing the minimum 21 batters with one batter reaching base before a double-play cleared the bases, leaving him one walk away from a perfect game. Hebert led the way in the Hanson Tigers’ 4-0 shut victory over the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights Friday at Amar Lancon Field in District 7-1A.
Hanson improved to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in District 7-1A with the two victories recorded on Friday at Amar Lancon Field and Saturday in Amelia.
Guienze kept the Central Catholic hitters at bay after tossing 87 pitches with 52 strikes and 35 balls. Guienze faced 25 batters, allowing only one run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks over seven complete innings.
Guienze was brilliant over seven innings, scattering three hits while surrendering only one run while remaining perfect on the season at 5-0 and 3-0 in league play. Guienze outlasted Central Catholic’s starter Greg Leger and reliever Samuel Guarisco. Leger suffered the mound loss after working 6.33 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks. Guarisco worked the final .67 inning, yielding no runs on no hits with no strikeouts and one walk.
Guienze baffled the Central Catholic hitters until the fourth frame when Guarisco managed to reach after score to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
Hanson rallied to knot the game at 1-1 in the top half of the sixth frame before adding a pair of insurance runs in the seventh, pulling out the hard-fought 3-1 victory.
Hanson’s Cameron Stovall, Britt Young and Clint Young all scored runs, making a winner of Guienze while chasing Leger after 6 and two-thirds frames.
Stovall went 1 for 2 with a run while Brandon Bonin was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Britt Young reached and later tagged home plate while Guienze went 1 for 3 with one RBI pinch-runner Clint Young replaced him and later scored to hand the Tigers a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.
Hebert _ who turned in a masterful performance _ was one walk away from a perfect game. Hebert tossed the no-no, not allowing a run nor a hit, yielding only one walk with 10 strikeouts Friday at Amar Lancon Field.
Hebert’s only blemish was a walk before his defense turned a double play to clear the bases. Hebert faced 21 batters, not allowing a hit nor a run while fanning 10 and issuing one free pass. Hebert faced 21 batters, tossing a total of 87 pitches with 58 strikes and 29 balls. He posted 10 strikeouts with no runs nor hits with only one walk.
Hanson supported Hebert with three runs in the second frame and one additional run in the fifth inning.
