Hanson Memorial sweeps District 7-1A wins from CHS

CENTERVILLE _ Casey Fitzgerald and Baylee Young keyed the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers’ 50-36 District 7-1A while Brennan Young and Clint Young combined to send the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 71-68 overtime win over the Centerville Bulldogs in the District 7-1A nightcap Friday at the CHS Gym.
Fitzgerald poured in 17 points while Young turned in her fourth double-double on the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds along with seven blocks and two assists.
Carly Pellerin finished with 10 points and five assists while Alyssa Young bagged eight points and Sarah Sonnier tallied four points and seven rebounds.
Kayla Robinson led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points while Kennon Stelly finished with nine points while Hailey McDaniel tossed in six points and Rylie Candella tallied five points.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers jumped out to a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Hanson went on a narrow 10-8 advantage in the second quarter en route to a 22-12 halftime cushion. In the third period, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers caught fire with a 21-12 flurry on the way to a 43-24 advantage. Hanson Memorial iced away the 50-36 District 7-1A victory over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs.

Hanson’s Clint Young fired in a team-high 24 points while Brennan Young finished with 19 points, including the 3-point buzzer beater as the Hanson Memorial Tigers eeked out a thrilling 71-68 overtime win over the Centerville Bulldogs here Friday at the CHS Gym.
Hanson Memorial (8-13, 5-5) edged past the Bulldogs 12-9 in the extra session, claiming the nail-biting District 7-1A victory over CHS.
Clint Young turned in a double-double performance, firing in 24 points including 6 of 9 freebies while yanking down 15 rebounds.
Hanson’s Brennan Young knocked down the game-winning trey as time expired in the extra session, helping the Tigers to a pulsating 71-68 overtime victory over Centerville.
Other top scorers for Hanson Memorial were: Bo Barrilleaux, 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists; Brian Sonnier, 6 points, 5 rebound and Josh Sanchez, 2 points and two late steals; Kyler Clements, 2 points.
Hanson opened with a 14-13 first quarter lead. Centerville retaliated with a 15-12 second quarter flurry for a 28-26 halftime lead over Hanson. Centerville cruised to a 45-40 cushion in the third quarter following a 17-14 run. Hanson benefited from a 19-14 fourth quarter rally to knot the game at 59-59 forcing the overtime period.
Brennan Young’s three-point buzzer-beater enabled the Hanson Memorial Tigers to pull out the resounding 71-68 overtime victory.
Centerville slipped to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in District 7-1A with the setback.
Centerville’s Marvin Strawder tossed in a game-high 29 points to lead the Bulldogs. He connected on 8-2’s, 2-3’s and 7 of 10 FTs for 29 points on the night.
Jaqualon Bourgeois also finished in double digits, bagging 15 points on 4-2’s, 2-3’s and 1 of 2 FTs.
Rounding out the scoring for CHS were: Cole Candella, 6 points; Karl Young, 5 points; Jayvien Thomas, 4 points; Desmond Monette, 4 points; Ryan Young, 3 points and Marquis Strawder, 2 points.
Centerville will be at AES Monday 3 pm start, boys jv, girls varsity and boys varsity.
Hanson will be at Lafayette Christian tonight in District 7-1A action.
