Hebert throws no-hitter; as MCHS tops Ellender

Tyler Hebert tossed a no-hitter and Katelyn Alvarez knocked in an RBI as Morgan City ended a tough stretch in its season with a 1-0 victory against Ellender in the Lady Tigers’ district opener Thursday.
In her seven-inning shutout, Hebert walked one, fanned seven and hit two batters. She threw just 70 pitches.
Alvarez drove home Kaitlyn Gros in the bottom of the fifth inning for Morgan City’s lone run. Alvarez finished the game 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Morgan City’s win came after a tough stretch of games in which the Lady Tigers lost four out of five games — all by run-rule.
In the low-scoring game Thursday, the Lady Tigers were limited to five hits. Hannah Falgout also finished 1-for-3 with a double.
Morgan City (7-4) will return to action this weekend when it participates in St. Amant’s tournament.
Landry throws perfect
game in CCHS rout
Megan Landry pitched a perfect game and Gee Garrett homered twice as the Central Catholic Lady Eagles run-ruled Highland Baptist 16-0 in four innings Thursday in District 7-1A action.
In the run-rule victory, Landry fanned 11 batters and didn’t surrender a run, a hit or a walk. Landry fanned the game’s first nine batters, while throwing a runner out at first to lead off the fourth after the Highland Baptist batter bunted to Landry. Landry then fanned the game’s final two batters.
“I am so proud of her hard work and dedication to softball,” Central Catholic coach Joe Russo said. “It is truly paying off for her. I am equally proud of my catchers, Elizabeth Garber and Paige Thomas, for their hard work and dedication in making the battery a success and also for the 20 kids that got a chance to play (Thursday) to contribute to a very sweet victory.”
At the plate, Garrett had two home runs, one of those an inside-the-park home run. She finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Central Catholic scored in every inning, plating three runs each in the first two innings and five apiece in the last two.
Other top contributors at the plate included Bridgette Swan, 3-for-3, four RBIs and two runs; Kimberly Russo, 2-for-3, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Brittany Longman, 2-for-3, an RBI and two runs; Kaitlyn Gros, 1-for-2, an RBI; and Garber, 1-for-2, a double.
Central Catholic (5-2, 2-0) will return to action today at 7:30 p.m. when it plays Ellender in the Central Catholic tournament.
Patterson drops first
game this season
The Patterson Lumberjills dropped their first game of the season with an 11-2 home loss to Plaquemine.
While the Lumberjills led 2-1 at one point, Plaquemine reeled off 11 unanswered runs.
Patterson committed a combined six errors in the fifth and sixth innings.
Taylor Hall suffered the loss for the Lumberjills.
At the plate, Rachel Easley finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Patterson (5-1) will return to action today in the Bayou Plaquemine Classic where they will face St. John today at 5 p.m. at St. John in Plaquemine. They will continue action Saturday with an 8 a.m. contest against St. James at St. John, while they will conclude the tournament with a noon contest against St. Michael the Archangel at Plaquemine High.
Brusly run-rules
Berwick
The defending Class 3A state champion Brusly High School Lady Panthers run-ruled the Berwick Lady Panthers 12-1 in five innings in Berwick Thursday.
While each team scored a run in the first inning, Brusly reeled off 11 consecutive runs combined during the third, fourth and fifth innings for the win.
Brusly outhit Berwick 14-3 in the contest, while the Lady Panthers committed five errors.
Sydney Jambois took the loss for Berwick. In 3.1 innings, she surrendered 11 runs two walks and fanned two.
In 1.2 innings of relief, Shelby Bergeron surrendered a run on three hits.
Shannon Theriot led the Lady Panthers at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance with a run, while Mary Jordan Melancon added an RBI.
Berwick (4-5) will return to action this weekend in Parkview Baptist’s tournament in Baton Rouge. The Lady Panthers will face North Vermilion today at 3:30 p.m. before playing Catholic High-New Iberia Saturday at 11 a.m. and Kaplan at 3 p.m.
