'Jacks defeat Southern Lab

The Patterson High School Lumberjacks defeated Southern Lab, 4-1, Monday in a game played at Southern University.
The Lumberjacks scored a run in the first and added three more in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Southern Lab scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Joel Singleton earned the win as he pitched a complete-game three-hitter. He surrendered an unearned run, walked six and fanned nine.
Jamey Fabre led the Patterson offense with a 1-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a run.
On Saturday, Patterson dropped a District 8-3A contest to E.D. White, 8-0, at Patterson.
E.D. White broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth and added another in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh.
E.D. White outhit Patterson, 15-6.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings, stranded 10 runners on base.
Patterson committed four errors. E.D. White had three miscues.
Patterson was led offensively by Blake Dreyer’s 2-for-3 performance. Teammate Bryce Beaubouef finished 1-for-3 with a double.
Tyrik Singleton suffered the loss for Patterson. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered eight earned runs on 15 hits with two walks and two hit batters.
Patterson (10-12 overall, 1-5 in district) will return to action today when it hosts Erath in a 5:30 p.m. contest. Erath is ranked No. 3 in the latest LHSAA power rankings.
South Terrebonne routs MCHS
The South Terrebonne Gators handed Morgan City its first District 7-4A loss in a 13-3 run-rule defeat in six innings in Bourg Monday.
While Morgan City had the game tied at 2 after an inning and led 3-2 in the top of the second, South Terrebonne took the lead in the bottom of the second at 4-3. The Gators added single runs in the third and fourth innings before erupting for five runs in the fifth for an 11-3 lead. South Terrebonne scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to invoke the mercy rule.
The Gators outhit the Tigers 15-6.
Philip Hutchinson led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, an RBI and a run. Other top contributors included Morquisse Charles, 2-for-2, a double and an RBI; and Evan Stadalis, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Rhett Fryou suffered the loss for Morgan City. In 4.1 innings, he surrendered 11 runs — nine earned — on 12 hits with one walk, one hit batter and four strikeouts.
The loss came two days after Morgan City upset South Terrebonne, ranked No. 10 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A power rankings, 11-9, in Morgan City Saturday.
In that contest, South Terrebonne took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before Morgan City countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame and three more in the second for an 8-3 advantage.
South Terrebonne came back with a run in the top of the fourth and five more in the top of the sixth for a 9-8 lead.
Morgan City countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
South Terrebonne outhit Morgan City, 8-6, even with getting on base with six walks.
However, the Gators committed four errors to the Tigers one miscue.
Charles led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run. Other top contributors included Stadalis, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI and two runs; Malik Phillips, 1-for-3, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs; Joshua Lorenzo, three RBIs, a stolen base and a run; and Fryou, an RBI.
Hutchinson, the third of three pitchers Morgan City used, earned the win. In two innings, he surrendered two runs — one earned — on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Logan Tingle started for Morgan City. In four innings, he surrendered four earned runs on three hits with five walks and fanned two.
Morgan City (12-11, 5-1) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic in a key district series. Morgan City still sits at first base in district with a 5-1 mark, while Vandebilt Catholic and South Terrebonne each are 4-2 in league play. First pitch Thursday is set for 6 p.m.
Prior to the game, the number of Morgan City great, Kenny Alfred, will be retired.
Berwick beats Kaplan
Berwick High School topped Kaplan, 10-3, in District 8-3A action at Kaplan Saturday.
While the game was tied at 1 after an inning and Berwick led just 4-2 after four complete, the Panthers broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Kaplan scored its other run in the bottom of the fifth.
Berwick outhit Kaplan 12-9.
Kaplan committed four errors to the Panthers one miscue.
Cameron Wiley led Berwick with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, while Kyle Pitre was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Other top Berwick contributors included Brandon Fryou, 2-for-4, an RBI; and D.J. Robicheaux, 2-for-5, a double and an RBI.
Nick Mayon earned the win. In four innings, he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Berwick (12-13, 7-1) will return to action today when it travels to face Lafayette High in a nondistrict game set for a 4 p.m. start. Lafayette High is ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A power rankings.
