Jeanerette edges MCHS at Tiger Classic

A fourth quarter rally fell just short as the Morgan City Tigers dropped a tough 55-53 decision to Jeanerette Monday in both teams’ opener at the Morgan City Tiger Classic.
The Tigers entered the fourth quarter trailing 46-35, but outscored their opponents 18-9.
Morgan City trailed 10-9 after the first quarter and 33-21 at the half.
Jaylen Jones led the Tigers with 19 points, while Buddy Humphrey also hit double figures with 12.
Other top contributors included Malcolm Watkins, nine; Marquise Green, five; and Brady Fryou, four.
Morgan City will try to stave off elimination and earn its first win today when it plays South Lafourche in the new gym at 7 p.m.
South Lafourche dropped to the loser’s bracket after falling to West St. Mary, 68-62.
Last week, Morgan City finished 0-3 at the Jeanerette Tournament with losses to Breaux Bridge (55-37), Abbeville in overtime (52-46) and West St. Mary (55-45).
In other tournament action, Thibodaux knocked off Terrebonne 80-65. No score was available from the Franklin-South Terrebonne contest.
Lady Panthers fall
to Westgate
The Berwick Lady Panthers dropped their opener to Westgate at the Catholic High-New Iberia Tournament, 52-15.
No individual stats were available.
The Lady Panthers (1-2) will return to action Wednesday at 11 a.m. against an opponent who hasn’t been determined yet.
Berwick falls
The Berwick Panthers fell to Episcopal School of Acadiana 34-30 at the Ascension Episcopal Tournament Monday.
“We struggled. … Everything was off,” Berwick coach Sean Comeaux said, adding the Panthers had a lot of turnovers.
No individual statistics were available from the contest.
Berwick will return to action today at 4:30 p.m. when it faces Catholic High-New Iberia.
CCHS-Patterson
to meet today
Central Catholic’s girls’ basketball team will open its season today at Patterson in a 6 p.m. contest.
Patterson will be looking to rebound from a 41-19 loss to Lutcher Nov. 19.
