Lady Tigers beat Assumption again

The Morgan City Lady Tigers picked up their second consecutive District 7-4A victory as they edged Assumption 61-58 Friday.
The win, which came days after Morgan City topped Vandebilt Catholic, ups Morgan City’s district mark to 4-2 for second place.
“The Vandy game was an extremely big win for our program,” Morgan City coach Taylor Clark said. “Our girls played their hearts out and they earned every bit of the victory. Our girls felt confident after the game, but still remained competitive throughout the week to prepare for Assumption. They practiced extremely hard throughout the week and succeeded on Friday. Assumption is a very good team and battled with us all throughout the game. District has been extremely competitive and we continue to grow for that reason.”
In Friday’s win, Casey Chenevert and Laqwaijha Bourgeois each had 22 points for the Lady Tigers while Alisha Singleton had eight points; Meya Morse, five; and Nakerial Bourgeois, four.
Morgan City (11-8 overall) will return to action Friday when it hosts Ellender in District 7-4A action. Girls’ varsity action is set for a 6 p.m. tip.
Patterson defeats Berwick
The Patterson Lumberjills defeated the Berwick Lady Panthers 71-6 in District 9-3A action in Berwick Friday.
Patterson jumped out to a 24-0 lead after the first quarter and led 37-2 at the half and 55-2 after three quarters.
Erykah Singleton led the Lumberjills with 14 points, while Gaylen Grogan also reached double figures with 13 points.
Other scorers for Patterson included Makayla Ruiz with nine points; Jazmin Evans, eight; Nia Broussard, seven points; Nyla Holder and Kemprielle Williams, six each; Nakia Brooks, four; and Keonna Johnson and Kemiah Watson, two apiece.
Jenna Beiza led Berwick with four points, while Selena Percle added two.
Patterson (15-9, 3-2) will continue District 9-3A action Tuesday when it travels to face Franklin in a 6 p.m. varsity contest.
Berwick will be in action in District 9-3A play Tuesday when it travels to Thibodaux to face E.D. White in a 6 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic beats Highland Baptist
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles picked up their second District 7-1A victory of the season holding off Highland Baptist, 40-33.
While Central Catholic led 22-12 after the first quarter and 28-18 at the half, Highland Baptist outscored the Lady Eagles 13-4 in the third period to cut its deficit to 32-31 entering the final period.
However, Central Catholic came back with an 8-2 advantage in the fourth period to seal the win.
Hallie Autin led the Lady Eagles with 18 points, while Taylor Picou also reached double figures with 10 points.
Other scorers for Central Catholic included Sydney Williams and Rebecca David with four points apiece and Emma Aucoin and Hanna McCue with two points each.
Friday’s win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Lady Eagles (5-17, 2-6).
Central Catholic will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Vermilion Catholic in district action in a 5:30 p.m. contest. Vermilion Catholic is ranked No. 2 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A power rankings released Tuesday.
