Morgan City, Patterson and Berwick high schools all began District 6-III volleyball action Tuesday. Morgan City defeated Patterson 3-1 (24-26, 25-9, 25-18, 25-19), while Berwick swept Donaldsonville 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-8). Lady Tigers top Lumberjills in four games

Morgan City High School defeated Patterson High School 3-1 (24-26, 25-9, 25-18, 25-19) in both teams’ District 6-III opener Tuesday.
After Patterson edged Morgan City in the first set, the Lady Tigers responded with three straight victories to win the match.
Morgan City had 13 aces, 14 blocks and 75 digs in the win.
Senior Jaiveianna Jones led the Lady Tigers with six aces, 14 kills, eight blocks, one assist and 12 digs, while freshman Kennedy Hebert had two aces, five kills, three blocks, one assist and 14 digs.
Other top contributors included junior Cecily Feliciano, two aces, three blocks, 12 assists and 10 digs; senior Brandi Ingram, one kill, one assist and 23 digs; junior Dwanna LeBeau, one ace, eight kills, one assist and four digs; junior Karley Guidry, one ace, 12 assists and three digs; and junior Alex Thompson, one kill and eight digs.
Junior Arian Grogan led Patterson with five aces, five points and eight kills, while junior Nia Broussard had two points, one kill, six digs and 14 assists.
Other top contributors included sophomore Makayla Ruiz, one ace, nine points, two kills and five digs; senior Nyria Robinson, one ace, six points, four kills and six digs; senior Jazmin Evans, two aces, one point and 12 digs; junior Gaylen Grogan, four kills, one block and two assists; junior Tamia Washington, two points, five kills and one dig; and senior Tye Williams, one kill and six digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City won 2-0 (25-14, 25-10).
Morgan City had 12 aces in the win, led by five from freshman Allie Vincent. Vincent also had three assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included sophomore Twanna LeBeau, four kills and one dig; sophomore Abby Reynaud, two kills, six assists and four digs; sophomore Brandi Albarado, two aces and five digs; sophomore Kaitlyn Gros, three aces and five digs; and sophomore Faith Crappell, one ace, two kills and two blocks.
Freshman Tapanga Haven led Patterson with one ace, two points, one dig and three assists, while freshman Morgan Jones had four points, one kill and one dig.
Other top contributors included sophomore Erykah Singleton, one point, two kills and two digs; sophomore Irinesha Kinchen, two digs; and junior Nyla Grady, one point.
In freshman action, Morgan City won 25-11, 27-29, 15-8.
Morgan City had 13 aces, led by six from Alisha Singleton. Singleton also had three kills and two digs.
Other top contributors included Abigail Landry, two aces, one kill, seven assists and one dig; Halley Lewis, two aces, three kills and five digs; Alaysia Williams, one ace, three kills and three digs; Scottie Metrejean, two kills and seven digs; and Mattie Rivere, two aces, three kills and two digs.
Morgan City (6-9 overall, 1-0 in district) will return to action Thursday when it hosts E.D. White, the defending Division III state runner-up. Freshman action will begin at 3:30 p.m., while junior varsity will follow at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
Patterson (8-4, 0-1) also will hit the court again Thursday when it travels to face Donaldsonville in district play. Action is set for a 4 p.m. start.
Berwick defeats
Donaldsonville
Berwick High School opened its District 6-III season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-8) win against Donaldsonville in Berwick Tuesday.
Berwick had 19 aces in the contest, including 13 by junior Ashton Morales. Morales also had eight kills, one block and six assists.
Other top contributors included sophomore Mary Jordan Melancon, two aces, two kills, one block, nine assists and one dig; sophomore Sydney Aucoin, two aces, five kills and two blocks; senior Hannah Carpenter, one ace and six digs; and senior Abigail Askew, two kills, one block and two digs.
Berwick also was victorious in junior varsity action, 2-0 (25-17, 25-14).
Tuesday’s win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Lady Panthers (10-7, 1-0).
Berwick will return to action Thursday when it hosts Lutcher in another district contest. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m., while varsity will follow at 5:30 p.m.
Lutcher was a Division III semifinalist a year ago and was ranked No. 3 as of Tuesday morning’s power rankings released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s unofficial power rankings.
