Lagrange has solid outing as ’Jacks roll

The Patterson Lumberjacks overwhelmed Rayville 42-0 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday at the Sugar Dome.
Junior quarterback Jake LaGrange started in place of injured standout Spencer Landry and completed 11-of-15 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
“I thought he threw the ball very well,” Patterson head coach Tommy Minton said. “I was also pleased with the run game (Friday).”
Daylon Charlot was LaGrange’s top target with four catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. Jedrick Gunner also had two receptions for 26 yards and a score.
Patterson (9-2), the fourth-seed, continued a power run game, churning out 165 yards. Deontay Jones and Tristen Ausama were a one-two punch for the second week in a row. Jones carried 12 times for 61 yards and three touchdowns, while Ausama had six carries for 87 yards.
“We always want to be balanced on offense,” Minton said. “We did a good job of keeping them guessing.”
When Charlot took a Rayville (4-7) punt and raced 73 yards for a touchdown with 3:49 to play in the second quarter, Patterson led 35-0.
“I was very happy to see our special teams making big plays,” Minton said. “We played well in all facets of the game.”
Patterson led 42-0 at the half, and the second half was played with a running clock.
The Patterson defense held Rayville to just 90 yards of total offense.
However, the defense was shorthanded with outside linebacker Nehemiah Augustus missing the game due to injury.
“He could’ve played tonight,” Minton said. “I think he’ll be ready to go next week.”
Patterson also forced three turnovers. Gunner and Shundren Johnson had fumble recoveries, while Shelby Lavergne had an interception.
Patterson will host Loranger (7-4) in regional play Friday. Loranger beat North Vermilion 28-7 to advance.
