Lumberjacks score two times against St. James in scrimmage
Patterson High School scored two touchdowns and gave up three to St. James during scrimmage action Thursday at St. James.
All scores were by the first-team units.
Patterson scored on its first two series quickly, both touchdowns by Nehemiah Augustus. Augustus scored on a 20-yard touchdown from Sirbatian Charles, while he scored the second on an option pitch from Charles for about a 50-yard score.
“I thought we came out pretty strong, excited, ready to go,” Patterson head football coach Chad Blanchard said.
However, he said he was disappointed his squad didn’t get better as the scrimmage progressed.
He noted they had a long touchdown called back because of holding while they fumbled the ball on another play with a ball carrier going into the end zone.
Blanchard had good things to say about Charles and Tristen Ausama on offense.
Defensively, Blanchard said his squad started off OK.
While they gave up a couple of long touchdowns, Blanchard noted he had some young guys playing on defense.
As the scrimmage progressed, he said his team did a good job adapting to what St. James was doing on offense.
He noted the Lumberjacks stopped the Wildcats after they got the ball inside the 15 yard line.
Thursday’s scrimmage featured first teams running in series, while the second team units had 10 play blocks.
