MCHS beats Ellender

Morgan City High School capped its regular season with a 5-3 win against Ellender in Morgan City.
While the game originally was scheduled to be played at Ellender, the game was moved to Morgan City due to recent inclement weather, and played at Shaw Park, Morgan City Junior High’s field.
Morgan City connected on three home runs in the contest while Ellender had one.
While Ellender took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Morgan City tied the game at 1 in the top of the third.
Ellender retook the lead at 3-1 in the bottom of the third before Morgan City responded with four unanswered runs — one in the fourth, two in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Morgan City finished with seven hits in the contest led by Alaysia Williams’ 2-for-3 performance with two home runs, two RBIs and two runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Brandi Ingram, 2-for-4, a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs; Dwanna LeBeau, 1-for-4, an RBI; and Kennedy Hebert, an RBI.
On the mound, Tyler Hebert surrendered three runs — two earned — on four hits with nine strikeouts.
Morgan City (15-10 overall, 6-2 district) now will await its playoff seeding and opponent, which will be announced between noon and 1 p.m. today. Morgan City will host a home game in the first round.
CCHS earns share of district title
Central Catholic capped District 7-1A softball play with a 7-1 win against Lafayette Christian Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles finished their season as District 7-1A co-champs with the win.
In Tuesday’s win, Megan Landry tossed a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts. In seven innings she allowed an unearned run.
On offense, the Lady Eagles scored two runs each in the first two innings and another in the third for a 5-0 lead.
The score remained the same until Central Catholic scored two more runs in the top of the seventh, while Lafayette Christian plated a run in its final at bat.
Hallie Autin finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Bridgette Swan was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Other top offensive contributors included Taylor Picou, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Brittany Longman, 1-for-4, a triple and an RBI; and Halley Romero, 1-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run.
Central Catholic (21-3, 11-1) now will await its playoff seeding and opponent. Brackets will be released today between noon and 1 p.m.
