MCHS to conclude season at Assumption Thursday

Morgan City High School will close out its season with a rare Thursday night contest when the Tigers travel to take on Assumption in a week 10 contest.
The contest, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved earlier this week due to a strong chance of rain Friday.
The Tigers, who started the season 4-0, have lost their last five games, including all four district games.
Morgan City will be looking to close the season on a positive note this week.
“I want them to compete and to show that they’re never going to give up,” Morgan City coach Scott Tregle said of what he is looking for from his team in their season finale. “That’s what I try to instill in them in football, in life, everything. Just compete to the last second. Don’t give up. I think we did that last week. We had some unfortunate breaks with some injuries, but I think we competed to the last (second).”
They will get that opportunity when they step on the field with Assumption (8-1 overall, 4-0) in district Thursday.
The Mustangs, who clinched a share of the district title a week ago with a win against South Lafourche, can clinch the outright title Thursday with a win.
“They’re disciplined,” Tregle said. “As far as their offense, they run a wing T, but they veer out of it, midline and then they run some wing T plays. They throw the ball pretty decent.”
Assumption features Quarterback Daron Williams and Tregle said three solid running backs.
“They going to have four weapons back in the backfield that can hurt you,” he said.
Williams has rushed 128 times for 1,063 yards and 17 touchdowns this season.
Tregle said the Assumption offensive and defensive lines are not big but are sound.
“Defensively, they’re going to play a 4-2-5 against us, but they’re really going to play man (coverage),” Tregle said. “Everybody’s been doing that until we hurt them with a few pass plays and then they double cover our receivers.”
Tregle said Assumption also has shown a 4-3 look with man coverage.
As for Morgan City, the Tigers are led by their ground game. Kedrick Scott leads the squad with 107 carries for 436 yards and five touchdowns, while Ethan Scioneaux has rushed 59 times for 331 yards and four scores and Malik Phillips, 48 times for 300 yards and five touchdowns.
Through the air, quarterback Abram Hartley has completed 50 of 122 passes for 820 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.
Makye Richard leads the team in receiving with 26 catches for 453 yards and four touchdowns, while Lloyd Singleton has caught nine passes for 211 yards.
Thursday’s game will begin at 7 p.m.
