MCHS drops season opener to Hahnville

Morgan City fell to Hahnville 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-14).
Errors were problematic for Morgan City in their season opener.
Sh’diamond Holly led the squad with five kills, two aces, two digs and three solo blocks. Other top contributors included Abby Reynaud, one kill and four assists; Karmen Peterson, two kills and one solo block; and Katelyn Gautreaux, two digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 2-0 (25-16, 25-20).
Hallie Blanchard led Morgan City with six kills and one dig. Other top contributors included Peterson, two kills, one ace and one dig; Jolee Nini, one kill, two assists and one ace; Dasha Tivet, two digs; and Deryon Johnson, one ace.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell 2-1 (5-25, 25-22, 13-15).
Sarajane Nini led Morgan City with six assists and one dig. Other top contributors included Jamia Francois, one kill, one assist, one ace and one solo block, and Johnson, one kill and four aces.
Morgan City (0-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Assumption’s tournament.
Berwick falls to
Houma Christian
Berwick High fell to Houma Christian, 3-1 (9-25, 17-25, 25-21, 17-25) in nondistrict action Tuesday in Houma.
Despite the loss, Berwick totaled 77 digs as a team and eight blocks.
Alyssa Gray led the squad with three kills, 14 assists and 14 digs. Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, one kill, one block, six assists and eight digs; Sydney Aucoin, five kills, four blocks and six digs; Lauren Skinner, eight kills and four digs; Brittany Roberie, one kill and 19 digs; Jordan Lipari, one kill, one block and seven digs; Rosalyn Gros, one ace and seven digs; and Emma Hover, nine digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick won 2-1 (25-20, 22-25, 15-8).
Berwick (0-2) will return to action Thursday when it begins play in Assumption’s tournament. Berwick will face Terrebonne at 4 p.m. and Ascension Catholic at 6 p.m. Ascension Catholic was a Division V semifinalist a year ago.
CCHS falls to
Vandebilt Catholic
Errors doomed Central Catholic as the squad was swept by Vandebilt Catholic in straight sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-20) in Houma Tuesday.
As a team, however, Central Catholic did record 10 solo blocks and one block assist.
Yani Johnson led the Lady Eagles with eight kills and eight blocks. Other top contributors included Hallie Autin, eight kills, one assist, one ace, one solo block and one block assist; Katie Hoffpauir, 11 assists, one ace and four digs; Taylor Picou, six assists, one ace and six digs; Quincee Wiggins, one kill and eight digs; and Emma Aucoin, five digs.
Central Catholic (1-1) will return to action today when it hosts Landry-Walker at 4:30 p.m.
