MCHS duo picks up honorable mention 4A All-State recognition

I’m happy to see both of them on the all-state ballot and see that other people recognized their talent.

Morgan City High had two honorable mention selections on the Class 4A All-State team.
Senior Marilynn Bailey and junior Brandi Ingram were selected to the squad.
“I’m happy to see both of them on the all-state ballot and see that other people recognized their talent,” Morgan City coach Tamara Keller said.
Bailey finished the season with a .425 batting average. She had nine doubles, two triples, five home runs and 11 RBIs. She also scored 27 runs. Her on-base percentage was .517, while her slugging percentage was .808.
While Keller said Bailey started off strong, accumulating most of her home runs at the beginning of the season, she said her shortstop had a midseason slump before bouncing back towards the end of the season and ending her high school career with a game-tying three-run home run in a first-round loss to West Ouachita.
“I felt like she had an off year, but that just kind of goes to show how good of an athlete she is,” Keller said. “Even when we put her in a position that she hadn’t played before, she filled that role at shortstop and was still able to have a successful season and still kind of successful season at the plate.”
Ingram batted .462 for the Lady Tigers with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 26 RBIs. She also scored 26 runs. She had an on-base percentage of .510 and a slugging percentage of .703.
“Brandi really wasn’t any surprise,” Keller said. “I actually wished she would have been a little higher for us at All-State. … She was just one of those kids that got to the plate, and I knew for sure was going to hit and she had a lot of confidence in herself and I had a lot of confidence in her.”
St. Thomas More’s Bailey Hemphill was named Outstanding Player, while Ellender coach Janie Trosclair was honored as Coach of the Year.
District 7-4A was well-represented on the all-state squad as Vandebilt Catholic pitcher Nora Keehn, Assumption infielder Amanda Gianelloni, Ellender utility selection Kyler Trosclair and Vandebilt Catholic utility selection Erin Crane all were first-team picks for the squad.
Alyssa Bush and Shelby Naquin, both of Ellender, and Kirstyn Torres and Sunnie Rae Blanchard, both of Assumption, were honorable mention selections.
