MCHS girls, BHS teams win bowling matches

Staff Report
MORGAN CITY — The first day of the prep bowling season at Charlie’s Lanes Wednesday brought together star power from a year ago, but the results to begin the 2014 season were quite different from a year ago.
The Morgan City boys’ bowling team, which went undefeated and lost its only game of the season in the state finals, fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 17-10.
In the match, the Tigers hurt themselves early as they fell behind 8-0 after game 1.
Meanwhile, the Morgan City Lady Tigers, who fell in last year’s Bi-Regionals, defeated Vandebilt Catholic, last year’s girls’ state champion, 17-10.
While Morgan City took the first match 5-3, Vandebilt Catholic responded with a 5-3 win, leaving the teams tied at 8 heading into the final match.
However, Morgan City’s four wins in the final contest were enough to lift them to the win.
Also Wednesday, Berwick swept Central Catholic with a 21-6 win in boys’ competition and a 15-12 victory in girls’ play.
In the girls’ contest, Berwick had to rally in the final game for the victory as it trailed 10-6 after game 2.
All six teams will return to the lanes Monday, Berwick will meet H.L. Bourgeois at Creole Lanes in Houma, while Central Catholic will face Morgan City at Charlie’s Lanes in Morgan City. All games will begin at 3:40 p.m.
On Wednesday, Morgan City and Berwick will meet in boys’ and girls’ action, while Central Catholic’s boys will play Thibodaux, all at 3:40 p.m. at Charlie’s Lanes.
