MCHS holds off Hahnville

Morgan City High School jumped out to a big lead early and held off Hahnville late for a 77-74 win in Morgan City’s home opener Tuesday.
While Morgan City led 26-7 after a quarter and 48-30 at halftime, Hahnville outscored Morgan City, 44-29, in the second half for a close finish.
Hahnville outscored Morgan City, 20-18, in the third period and trailed 66-50 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Hahnville outscored Morgan City, 24-11.
The teams combined for 19 three pointers. Hahnville connected on 12 attempts, and Morgan City made seven.
Tywaun Walker led Morgan City with 21 points, while Makye Richard and Deondre Grogan also reached double figures with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Other Morgan City scorers included Ke’Sean Francois, seven points; Jared Singleton, six; Taaj Daniels and Morrquise Charles, four each; Devonta Grogan, three; Kerwin Francois, two; and Ronnell Williams, one.
Morgan City (7-3) will return to action Thursday when it begins play in Patterson’s tournament with a 5 p.m. contest against North Vermilion. North Vermilion is ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings. Morgan City is No. 19 in the Class 4A rankings.
Lutcher edges Berwick
Berwick dropped a tough one at home Tuesday, falling 57-56, to Lutcher.
Friday, Berwick defeated Christian Life on the road, 61-56.
No stats were available from either game.
Berwick (7-4) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Patterson’s tournament with a 3:30 p.m. contest against Lafayette High, the No. 4 ranked team in 5A, according to the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings. Berwick is No. 6 in the latest 3A rankings.
Berwick girls fall to Christian Life
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Christian Life Academy, 59-27, in Baton Rouge Friday.
No individual stats were available.
Berwick (0-8) will return to action Wednesday when it begins play in Hanson’s Holiday Classic with a 5 p.m. contest against West St. Mary.
