MCHS Lady Tigers finish weekend 2-1

The Morgan City Lady Tigers finished 2-1 at Brusly’s tournament with wins against Loranger and Westminster while falling to North Vermilion.
Against Loranger, the Lady Tigers won 6-0.
Morgan City scored four runs in the third and two more in the sixth.
Tyler Hebert earned the win for Morgan City. In seven innings, she surrendered three hits, three walks and fanned nine.
At the plate, Aliya Green finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Brandi Ingram, 2-for-2, a double, two runs; and Cayla Mayon, 2-for-2, a double. Other top contributors included Hannah Falgout, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs; Morgan Comeaux, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Katelyn Alvarez, an RBI.
On Saturday, Morgan City began the day with a 10-0 run-rule victory against Westminster in five innings.
Morgan City did all of its scoring in the first three innings, scoring four runs in the first and three more each in the second and third innings.
Ingram and Marilynn Bailey each homered in the win.
Bailey finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs, while Ingram was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Other top contributors included Comeaux, 2-for-3, a double, three RBIs; Green, 2-for-2, a double, an RBI, two runs; Falgout, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI, a run; and Taylor Prince, 1-for-2, a double, two runs.
Hebert earned the win. In five innings, she surrendered two hits, three walks, hit a batter and fanned seven.
Later Saturday, the Lady Tigers suffered their lone loss of the tournament with a 4-1 setback to North Vermilion.
North Vermilion plated two runs each in the second and fifth innings, and Morgan City pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Bailey finished 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Lady Tigers; Falgout, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Green, 1-for-3, a double, a run and a stolen base.
Hebert suffered the loss for Morgan City. In seven innings, she surrendered four runs — three earned — on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Morgan City (12-7, 2-1) will return to District 7-4A action today in a 4 p.m. contest at Assumption.
CCHS finishes
weekend 2-1
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished the weekend 2-1 at Catholic High-New Iberia’s tournament with wins against Berwick and Captain Shreve before falling to Kaplan.
Against Berwick, Central Catholic held off a Berwick seven inning rally.
While the Lady Panthers trailed 9-5 entering the final inning, they plated two runs in the top of the frame. However, the Lady Eagles prevented any more damage in coming away with the win.
In the top of the first, the Lady Panthers scored a run, while they added a run in the third.
However, Central Catholic responded with a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings for a 7-2 lead.
While Berwick cut the lead to 7-5 in the top of the fifth, Central Catholic responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Megan Landry earned the win for Central Catholic. In seven innings, she surrendered seven runs — four earned — on six hits and fanned 15.
Kaitlyn Gros led the Lady Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance with a stolen base and three runs, while Gee Garret was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run and Brittany Longman, 2-for-4. Other top contributors included Bridgette Swan and Brooke Lipari, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Landry, an RBI.
In the Lady Eagles’ 2-0 win against Captain Shreve, Central Catholic scored a run in the first and third innings.
Landry tossed a complete-game one hitter, walking two and fanning 15.
She also led the Lady Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI. Other top contributors included Paige Thomas, 2-for-3; Garrett, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Longman, 1-for-3, a double, a run.
The Lady Eagles dropped their tournament finale to Kaplan, 5-2.
While Central Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Kaplan responded with three runs in the fourth inning.
Central Catholic cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but Kaplan responded with two more runs in the bottom of the frame for the final margin.
Hits were hard to come by for both teams as Central Catholic outhit Kaplan 5-4.
Longman finished 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagles; Paige Thomas, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI; and Garrett, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Saturday’s loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Lady Eagles.
Central Catholic (13-3, 4-0) will look to start a new win streak as well as keep its District 7-1A mark intact when it hosts Ascension Episcopal today.
Patterson game canceled
Patterson’s contest against Ellender, scheduled for Monday in Houma, was rained out and won’t be made up.
Patterson (7-4, 0-2) will return to District 9-3A action today with a doubleheader at home against Franklin. The first game is set for 4 p.m., while a 5:30 p.m. contest will follow.
