MCHS' Patterson will compete in all-star game
Morgan City High School’s Sarah Patterson will participate in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association all-star soccer game Saturday at Pan-American Stadium in New Orleans as a member of the West team.
Patterson was a four-year starter for the Lady Tigers and will be a defender in the contest.
Patterson said she has played with or against some of the girls she will be seeing again Saturday and said they all are skilled players.
“I am very thankful to have been given this opportunity to be able to play with a group of talented girls like this in my last soccer game,” she said.
She said it is an honor to play with these talented players one final time in high school.
Morgan City soccer coach Trevor Patterson, who is Sarah Patterson’s father, said Sarah Patterson was the “glue” to the team as the central midfielder at Morgan City.
“Even though you might not see her name (with) scores all the time, she basically had all the assists for everybody in the past four years,” he said. “When you’d see all these people scoring four, five goals, it was always her with the majority of the assisting.”
While Coach Patterson said his daughter could have gone on to play college soccer if she wished to, she didn’t want to.
Coach Patterson will be in a different situation as he will not be on the sidelines to coach his daughter.
Asked how he would react just as a fan, he said, “I’m going to enjoy it because, again, yes, it’s nice to have a win but it’s mostly for the kids playing their last high school soccer event with a bunch of talented players. It means nothing, so just going out there to have fun and watch them all.”
