MCHS sweeps doubleheader with Ellender, 9-2

The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated Ellender, 9-2, in District 7-4A action in Morgan City Tuesday.
Morgan City jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
While Ellender cut its deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fourth, Morgan City plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.
Morgan City outhit Ellender 11-5, while the Lady Patriots committed five errors to Morgan City’s three.
Gracie Verrett led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Other top contributors included Allie Vincent, 2-for-3, a run; Hannah Prado, 2-for-4, a run; Scottie Metrejean, 1-for-4, a double, an RBI; McKenzie Smith, 1-for-4, two RBIs, a run; Dwanna LeBeau, 1-for-4, an RBI, a run; Kennedy Hebert, 1-for-5, a double, two RBIs, two runs; and Mattie Rivere, an RBI, a run.
Morgan City (11-5 overall, 6-1 in district) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face South Terrebonne in a 4 p.m. contest.
Berwick sweeps doubleheader from Franklin
The Berwick Lady Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak with a pair of run-rule victories at Franklin Tuesday in District 8-3A action.
Berwick won the first game 21-2 in three innings and won the second game 14-0 in five innings.
In game 1, Berwick scored 11 runs in the first, 10 in the second and one in the third.
Franklin plated two runs in its final at bat in the bottom of the third.
Berwick outhit Franklin 16-1.
Hannah Henry led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with four RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Madison Carline, 2-for-3, three RBIs, two runs; Jaci Arnold, 2-for-2, two RBIs, three runs; Jordan Lipari, 2-for-2, an RBI, three runs; Mary Jordan Melancon and Emma Hover, each 2-for-3, an RBI, three runs; Rosalyn Gros, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI, three runs; and Peytan Theriot, 1-for-1, an RBI.
Lipari earned the win. In three innings, she allowed two runs on one hit and fanned three.
In game 2, Berwick scored three runs in the first, seven in the second and four in the bottom of the fourth.
Berwick outhit Franklin, 13-3, while Franklin committed four errors.
Arnold led Berwick with a 2-for-4 performance with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Other top contributors included Madelyn Gros, 2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs, a run; Madeleine Hover, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI, two runs; Rosalyn Gros, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI, two runs; Sydney Aucoin, 1-for-2, two RBIs, a run; Carline, 1-for-3, an RBI, two runs; and Melancon, 1-for-4, two RBIs, a run.
Aucoin earned the win. In two innings, she surrendered a hit and fanned three.
Berwick (8-10, 4-3) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Erath in a District 8-3A contest set for a 4 p.m. start.
CCHS run-rules
Highland Baptist
Central Catholic erupted for nine runs in the top of the fifth en route to a 14-2 run-rule victory against Highland Baptist in District 7-1A action on the road Tuesday.
Ahead 5-2 heading into the top of the fifth, the Lady Eagles plated nine runs in the frame.
Highland Baptist couldn’t counter any runs and the 10-run mercy rule went into effect, ending the game.
Central Catholic scored five runs in the second and Highland Baptist cut its deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the third.
Central Catholic outhit Highland Baptist, 15-3.
Kaleigh Navarro led Central Catholic with a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Tori Estay, 3-for-3, two runs; Brooke Lipari, 2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs, two runs; Kelly Russo, 2-for-4, an RBI, a stolen base, two runs; Jordan Morvant, 1-for-3, an RBI; Taylor Picou, 1-for-4, an RBI; and Hallie Autin, 1-for-4, a double, a run.
Sarah Thomas earned the win. In five innings, she surrendered two earned runs on three hits with two walks and fanned one.
Central Catholic (10-9, 6-3) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a 5 p.m. contest.
