No. 14 Morgan City High School may be the higher seed in its first-round Division III soccer matchup with No. 19 International High School of New Orleans Saturday, but Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson is concerned about his opponent’s ability to score.
“The kids should not take them lightly just (because) they’re a No. 19 and we’re a No. 14,” Patterson said Thursday. “They seem to have a lot more scoring power than what we’ve had in the past.”
Patterson said while his team has done well this season, scoring has been a problem. He noted the team lost key players to graduation and other reasons from last year’s squad, which advanced to the quarterfinals.
He said he has stressed to his squad at practice this week they must score more. He noted that International has scored more goals against the same opponents that Morgan City has played.
Despite the disadvantage in total goals scored, Patterson said he thought Saturday’s game, set for a 10 a.m. start at Tiger Stadium in Morgan City, would be a good one.
International enters Saturday’s game with a 9-4-2 overall mark. The squad finished 2-1-1 in District 6-III.
Morgan City finished the regular season 9-13-2 overall and 2-6 in District 7-III play.
