Staff Report

The Morgan City High School soccer teams swept their District 6-III contests against Belle Chasse in Morgan City Tuesday with the Lady Tigers taking a 1-0 victory and the Tigers, a 2-0 win.
In the girls’ game, Morgan City scored the upset after it made a goal by Angie Sagastizado in the 39th minute hold up for the game’s lone goal.
Belle Chasse came into the game ranked No. 14 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls’ power rankings released Tuesday, while Morgan City (2-12-1 overall, 2-3 in district) was ranked No. 28.
Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said his team had multiple opportunities to score.
In the boys’ contest, Morgan City had the same problems with many opportunities to score but unable to finish.
However, the Tigers (7-10-2, 2-3) got enough with two goals from Carlos Calderon in the first half in the 10th and 17th minutes being the difference.
“Two wins but still disappointed that we didn't finish our goal chances,” Patterson said of his teams. “This is what makes the difference between advancing further in the playoffs.”
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will return to the field Friday.
Both teams play away Friday against Vandebilt Catholic. Vandebilt Catholic is ranked No. 1 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III girls’ power rankings, while Vandebilt Catholic’s boys’ squad is ranked No. 2 in the latest boys Division III power rankings.
