Morgan City tops Donaldsonville in district play

The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated Donaldsonville in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, in district play Monday.
Morgan City recorded 13 aces in the contest led by four from Brandi Ingram. Ingram also contributed four kills and five digs.
Other top contributors included Dwanna LeBeau, eight kills and two digs; Alex Thompson, six kills and one assist; Taylor Prince, two aces, two kills, 19 assists and five digs; Savannah Loupe, one ace and 11 digs; Cecily Feliciano, three aces, two kills, one assist and eight digs; Kloé Liner, an ace, two kills, one block, one assist and nine digs; and Marilynn Bailey, two aces and one dig.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 25-18, 25-15.
Morgan City had 11 aces in the contest, including three apiece by LeBeau and Feliciano. LeBeau added an assist and a dig, while Feliciano also contributed two kills, three assists and four digs.
Other top contributors included Karley Guidry, two aces, two kills, three assists and four digs; Sara Gaudet, one kill, one assist and seven digs; and Thompson, two aces, three kills, one block and two digs.
This past weekend, Morgan City participated in Dunham’s tournament where the squad finished 1-2.
Morgan City defeated Redemptorist 25-17, 25-18.
Morgan City had 21 aces in the contest, including six by Prince. She also added a kill, two assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Layne Reynaud, three aces, five kills, one block, 12 assists and three digs; Ingram, five aces, three kills and one dig; Liner, three aces, four kills, one assist and one dig; LeBeau, five kills and one dig; and Bailey, three aces and three digs.
The Lady Tigers fell to DeLaSalle at the tournament, 14-25, 25-21, 7-15.
Reynaud had three kills, a block assist, 14 assists and five digs for Morgan City, while Liner added four kills, one block, one assist and five digs.
Other top contributors included Ingram, two aces, five kills, one block and five digs; Prince, three kills, one assist and five digs; Bailey, one assist and eight digs; Loupe, seven digs; and Thompson, one kill, one block and one dig.
Against Archbishop Hannan, the Lady Tigers fell 25-13, 25-16.
Ingram had two kills and three digs, while Bailey added two kills and four digs; Reynaud, two kills and two assists; and LeBeau, one ace and two kills.
Morgan  City (12-22 overall, 4-5 in district) will return to action Wednesday when it plays at Berwick. Freshmen action is set for a 3:30 p.m. start with junior varsity and varsity play to follow at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Berwick falls to
E.D. White
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to E.D. White in straight sets in district play Monday in Thibodaux.
The Lady Panthers fell 25-11, 25-13, 25-20.
As a team, the squad put up 11 blocks, led by five from Brie Hill.
Hill added 10 kills and 18 digs.
Other top contributors included Ashton Morales, one block, 16 assists and six digs; Hannah Carpenter, two aces and 16 digs; Abigail Askew, six kills and two blocks; Diana Grace Guarisco, five digs; Lauran Delco, two blocks; and McKenzie Baumgartner, one kill and one block.
In junior varsity action, the Lady Panthers fell 25-16, 25-16.
Sydney Aucoin led the squad with four kills, two blocks and an assist, while Jeanne Marie Hidalgo had four aces, one kill and five digs.
Other top contributors include Rosalyn Gros, one kill and seven digs; and Mary Jordan Melancon, one assist and five digs.
In freshmen action, Berwick fell in two close matches, 25-22, 26-24.
Melancon had five kills, one assist and an ace for Berwick; Aucoin had a kill, two blocks and an ace; and Gros, five digs.
This past weekend, Berwick finished 3-2 in Terrebonne’s tournament, falling in the semifinals to South Terrebonne, 25-22, 25-20.
Hill had an ace, seven kills, one assist and nine digs, while Morales contributed two kills, one block, 11 assists and eight digs.
Other top contributors included Askew, seven kills, one block and a dig; Baumgartner, one kill, one assist, two digs and a block; and Carpenter, one ace and 11 digs.
Earlier in the tournament, Berwick defeated Thibodaux, 25-15, 25-22.
Morales had one ace, two kills, 14 assists and five digs; and Hill had two aces, nine kills, one block and seven digs.
Other top contributors included Askew, six kills; and Carpenter, five digs.
Berwick also defeated Ellender 25-13, 25-14.
Hill had an ace, 16 kills, two blocks and five digs; Morales added two kills, 13 assists and five digs; and Carpenter, two aces and five digs.
Also in the tournament, Berwick fell to eventual champion Archbishop Chappelle, 25-18, 25-13.
Hill had two aces, six kills, two blocks, one assist and seven digs; Maddie Gray added two kills, one block and four digs; Morales, one kill, eight assists and five digs; and Carpenter, eight digs.
Chappelle entered the contest ranked third in Division 1 in last week’s unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.
Against Terrebonne, Berwick won 21-25, 25-17, 17-15.
Hill had one ace, 14 kills, three blocks, one assist and nine digs, while Morales had six kills, 11 assists and four digs.
Other top contributors included Guarisco, two kills, one assist and seven digs; and Carpenter, two aces and nine digs.
Hill was named to the all-tournament team at this weekend’s event.
The Lady Panthers (18-16, 5-4) will return to action Wednesday when it hosts Morgan City for Senior Night in both teams’ district finale.
Lutcher tops Patterson
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Lutcher 25-8, 25-17, 25-6 in district play in Lutcher Monday.
Jazmin Evans had three aces and two digs for Patterson, while Gaylen Grogan had a point, two aces and two kills and Nyria Robinson, three kills.
Other top contributors included Tye Williams, three digs; and Nia Madise, two assists.
Patterson (8-14, 2-7) will return to action today when it travels to face West St. Mary in nondistrict play. Action will begin at 4 p.m.
