Norwood DQ'd in 400-meter heat

Vernon Norwood's bid for an indoor world championship in the 400-meter run ended today as the USA Indoor track and field champion in the event was disqualified in his 400-meter heat at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon.
Norwood, running in the fourth of five heats, had clocked in with a time of 46.32 in the race, good enough for second in the heat and to advance to the semifinals, according to the IAAF's Twitter account. However, he later was disqualified from the race, according to the IAAF website, due to what the Associated Press reported as a lane violation.
Norwood still may have a shot at a gold medal as he is pegged as one of the candidates Team USA may use in its 4x400-meter relay.
Heats in the event will be run at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, while the finals will be held at 6:50 p.m. Sunday.
