Opelousas girls, boys win Foster-Perry Relays titles

After the 2015 Foster-Perry Relays were treated to an inspiring opening ceremonies, the Opelouas High School girls and boys collected titles Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium.
Opelousas tallied 128 points to win the boys division while the OHS Lady Tigers won the girls’ meet with 118 points.
Franklin, which finished third, was led by outstanding performances from Hakim Ruffin and Trevions Rouchon.
Keandre Jones of Opelousas was the boys’ Most Valuable Player, while Hakim Ruffin of Franklin was the MVP on the track and Trevions Rouchon of Franklin was named the Outstanding Performer.
Opelousas High School amassed 128 total points while Westgate was second with 108 points. Franklin placed third with 104 points with Patterson fourth with 41 points followed by Hanson Memorial fifth with 38 points. Morgan City placed sixth (32) ahead of L. W. Higgins (29), St. James (22), St. Martinville (21) and Jeanerette (3).
Kaylin Martin of St. James was the Outstanding Performer with Shaquandera Hicks of Opelousas the Track MVP and Karia Butler of Franklin the Field MVP.
Opelousas Girls won the meet with 118 points with the Centerville Lady Bulldogs second with 68 points. Rounding out the scoring for the girls were: Morgan City, third, 63; Franklin, fourth, 58; St. James, fourth, 58; Hanson Memorial, sixth, 48; St. Martinville, seventh, 44; Patterson, eighth, 19; L. W. Higgins, ninth, 18 and Jeanerette, tenth, 3.
The 33rd Annual Foster-Perry Relays opened with the Franklin Senior High Junior ROTC Color Guard along with the singing of the National Anthem by Zarria Brown, prayer by the Rev. Allen Randle and inspiring words from Principal Tybus Burdett, St. Mary Parish’s Ricky Armelin, Franklin City Councilman Lester Levine and FSHS’ Athletic Director J. Ina.
