Panthers finish 2-0 at jamboree
The Berwick High Panthers finished 2-0 at the Morgan City Jamboree this weekend with shutout wins against Hanson and Franklin.
In its first contest, the Panthers defeated Hanson 1-0, while they followed that up with a 5-0 win against Franklin.
Berwick allowed no hits in either contest as Nick Duthu, Brannon Melancon and Neal Theriot combined for the no-hitter in the first game and Tim Shelby, Andrew Askew and Daniel Gray kept Franklin hitless in the second contest.
While Berwick was scheduled to open its season today at Vandebilt Catholic, that game has been rained out. The Panthers are scheduled to participate in Morgan City’s tournament this weekend.
Patterson finishes 1-1
at jamboree
The Patterson Lumberjacks split their contests at the Morgan City Jamboree Saturday as they defeated Franklin 8-0, while they fell to Morgan City 2-1.
Sirbatian Charles earned the win against Franklin, while Spencer Landry, Brennan Gouaux, Kenny Singleton, Jake Lagrange and Blake Dreyer all had hits.
Against Morgan City, Landry suffered the loss. Landry and Singleton had hits in the game.
“I thought we played well, and I think we have gotten better every time we have played against someone,” Patterson coach Ryan Jensen said. “Hopefully it continues.”
Jensen said his squad still needs to throw more strikes and improve on some things defensively that hurt them against Morgan City.
Patterson will return to action Thursday when it begins play in its annual tournament.
Tigers finish 1-1
The Morgan City Tigers finished 1-1 at their jamboree Saturday with a 7-1 win against Hanson before falling to Patterson.
In the win against Hanson Evan Stadalis was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Phillip Hutchinson was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
John Ross McNemar earned the win as he threw two innings and struckout four.
Against Patterson, Grant Perry earned the win as he surrendered one hit and struckout three.
Stadalias finished 1-for-1 for the Tigers.
Morgan City will open its season today at Franklin. Junior varsity is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
Central Catholic falls
in jamboree
The Central Catholic Eagles fell to Central Lafourche, 8-7, at the Central Lafourche Jamboree at E.D. White in Thibodaux.
Bryson Barbier finished 2-for-3 for the Eagles, while Barron Courtney finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Mitchell Lemoine also finished 1-for-3 with a double.
Barbier took the loss for Central Catholic.
The Eagles will return to action Thursday in Patterson’s tournament.
Tri-City area softball
teams in action
Central Catholic finished 1-0-1, while Berwick finished with ties in its two contests, all at Teurlings Catholic’s jamboree in Lafayette.
Central Catholic and Notre Dame each were scoreless in their contest, while the Lady Eagles beat Kaplan 1-0.
Berwick and Lafayette High School played to a 5-5 tie, while Berwick and Notre Dame each were scoreless in their contest.
On Friday, Patterson split its two games at Franklin’s jamboree, defeating Franklin 9-0 and falling to Hanson, 5-1.
All three teams will begin their regular season Tuesday as Berwick will host Ascension Catholic at 3:30 p.m., Patterson will travel to Central Lafourche for a 4 p.m. contest, and Central Catholic will travel to Ellender in Houma for a 4 p.m. contest.
The Morgan City Lady Tigers, whose results were not available from this weekend, will open their season Tuesday at Thibodaux at 4 p.m.
